Beatrice Duval Beatrice M. Duval, 95 of Fargo, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Bethany Retirement Living, Fargo. Beatrice M. Sauvageau was born on December 16, 1913 on the family farm near Hickson, ND. She grew up in that area and attended school at St. Joseph's Academy where she boarded after her mother died. While a student at St. Joseph's, she was taught to translate French and English and performed in French plays and musicals. After leaving the Academy, she worked for families taking care of children as an au pair and then lived in Flaxville, Montana for six months. Beatrice M. Sauvageau and Louis Duval were married on February 21, 1933 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church. They lived and farmed south of St. Benedict's after their marriage. During the winter of 1944-45, they traveled to Portland, Oregon to help in the war effort by working at the shipbuilding yard. They returned to farm in the spring. The next winter, they worked in Shelby, Montana and returned to Wild Rice to farm during the summer. They continued farming in the Wild Rice area from 1933-1970 when they retired. Bea also was a cook at St. Joseph’s Academy from 1956-1962. They took 7 trips to Quebec, Canada and Bea published a book entitled, "And the Tree Flourished: Duval Family 100 Years in the U.S." Bea and her husband had a garden farm and sold their produce at Trollwood until 1981. Bea worked for 17 years for the Fargo Home Health Agency. She is survived by her daughter, Doris Werth, Fargo, ND; her son, Ronald (Pat) Duval, Horace, ND; sisters, Lucille Duval, Fargo; Rose Anderson, Fargo; Jean Rheault, West Fargo; 4 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandsons; 3 step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis and a brother, Aurele Sauvageau. Visitation: Monday, August 17 from 6-7 pm at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Fargo and also one hour prior to Mass at the church on Tuesday. Rosary &Prayer Service: Monday at 7:00 pm at the church. Funeral Mass: Tuesday, August 18 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Fargo. Interment: St. Benedict’s Cemetery, Wild Rice, ND.
