Bernice Johnsen

Bernice T. Johnsen, 89, Kindred passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Palliative Care Unit of Sanford Health, Fargo.

Bernice was born June 13, 1923 to Samuel and Olga (Olsen) Lunde in Fargo, North Dakota. She grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School. She went on to attend Interstate Business College. On November 1, 1952 she married Carroll Johnsen at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo.  Bernice and Carroll farmed in the Kindred area before retiring and moving to Kindred in 1991.

Bernice was very active in Norman Lutheran Church where she volunteered in a variety of ways. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed being at the cottage on Pelican Lake.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Carroll, Kindred, N.D.; children, Becky (Tom) Hagen, Chanhassen, MN, Nancy (Paul) Olson, Fargo, N.D. and Ron Johnsen, Fargo, N.D.;  grandchildren, Patricia and Andrea Olson, both of Fargo, N.D.; and nephew, William (Maja) Lunde, Zurich, Switzerland.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Stanley P. Lunde.

Bernice’s family would like to thank the staff of Bethany Retirement Living and the Palliative Care Unit at Sanford Health, Fargo.
