Bert M. Bercier, 89, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Eventide Lutheran Home surrounded by his family.

Bert was born March 9, 1924 in St. John, ND to Albert and Eva (LaRocque) Bercier. He grew up in St. John and was drafted into the United States Navy during his senior year of high school. Bert fought in World War II from 1943 until he was discharged in 1945. He was honored with the Silver Star Medal for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity” during the war. Following his military discharge, Bert was united in marriage to Frances Schindler on August 1st, 1947 in Portland, Oregon at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Bert was employed in the heating and cooling business throughout much of his life prior to retirement in November of 1990. Together, Bert and Frances raised five children.

Bert loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed hunting season with them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and mentor and will be missed dearly.  

Bert is survived by his wife, Frances (Schindler) Bercier, Moorhead, MN; three sons, Byron (Debbie) Bercier, White Bear Lake, MN; Gary (Brenda) Bercier, Chaska, MN; Gerard (Kathy) Bercier, Jamestown, ND; two daughters, Rennae (Rainer) Lobitz, Audubon, MN; Tracy (Rick) Batsch, Fargo, ND; two sisters, Yvonne Longie, Rolla, ND;  Emma (Andy) DesJarlais, Surry, ND; thirteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Eva Bercier; two brothers, Joseph Bercier and Bernard Bercier; and two sisters,  Irene Manson and Bonnie DeMontigny.

  4. Puyallup WASorry to hear of Bert’s passing, I remember Bert when he was in the US Navy and was home on leave. He was a very nice man and well respected by the people of St. John. He is with his father, mother and 2 brothers in god paradise. He will be greatly missed by his wonderful family.

    I loved Uncle Bert and he was a favorite in our family since he brought the dimes and popcicles. He was a great friend to our Dad and I’m sure they are telling a few good ones in heaven today. With fondest memories and prayers for your family.

    Sorry to hear of your loss of your husband and father. I remember visiting you and Bert in Wahpeton with Rick and Elaine. Bert always had a great sense of humor and always telling jokes. He is up in heaven looking down on us all.
