Bette J. Madsen, age 80, Fargo, ND, formerly Grandin, ND, died peacefully surrounded by her family in her son Mark?s home in Hillsboro, North Dakota, on Friday, June 4, 2004. A memorial service for Bette will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church in Grandin, North Dakota. There will be a prayer service Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in the Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo. Bette Werner was born on the family farm near Hampden, North Dakota, the daughter of Elmer and Nellie (Strong) Werner. She grew up in this area and graduated from Hampden High School. Bette was united in marriage to Elmer Madsen on August 14, 1941, in Starkweather, North Dakota. Elmer served his country in the United States Army and upon his discharge they made their home in Gluek, Minnesota. In 1948, they moved to Wolford, North Dakota, and later to Gardner in 1955. In 1964, they made their home in Grandin where she worked for Purina Mills and the Grandin Co-op. Elmer and Bette enjoyed spending many winters in Arizona before moving to The Waterford in Fargo in 1999. Elmer passed away on April 6, 2002. Bette loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also very fond of her family?s dogs. She was an avid bridge & bingo player. She was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grandin, North Dakota. Bette is survived by her loving children, Michael (Karen) Madsen of Phoenix, Arizona, and children Eric and Aaron; Joy (Jon) McSparron of Grandin, North Dakota, and children, Jason, Joshua and Jessica; Mark (Vicki) Madsen of Hillsboro, North Dakota, and children, Rick, Kelly and Steve; and Ted (Kathy) Madsen of Glyndon, Minnesota, and children, April, Kyle, Jessica and Courtney; and also nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Gladys Furseth of San Jose, California. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Edwin.
