Betty passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Mapleview Memory Care in Fargo, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty Ann Ostenson was born on September 29, 1932, the daughter of Oscar and Annie (Olson) Ostenson in Page, ND. She grew up with her family in Casselton, ND where she attended school, graduating from Casselton High School in 1950.

Betty was united in marriage to Donald King on October 28, 1950, at the Casselton Lutheran Church. They resided near Amenia, ND, during their first years of marriage. Betty worked alongside her husband, Donald, raising crops and livestock on farms near Wyndmere, Christine and Walcott. During the winter months, they spent time in the Twin Cities, staying with relatives, working at various places for the family. In later years, she enjoyed her time spent, over 15 years, working for Minn-Dak as a scale operator at the sugar beet pilers during harvest.

Betty’s faith was very important to her and she was very active in her church with ladies aide and circle groups. Betty was a woman of many talents. She loved to bake and share with her family and was especially known for her homemade buns, her caramel pluck bread, and her icebox oatmeal cookies. Life on the farm kept her busy with tending to her lawn and gardens, and sewing but she also found time for other activities such as – swimming and water skiing, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, snow skiing, golfing, bowling teams, and card clubs. She also loved to go dancing and spend time with family and friends. Most of all, Betty was a mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and now a great-great grandmother. She was a loving and beautiful lady that will remain in our hearts forever.

Betty is survived by her daughters – Cheryl (Jim Guy) Hackey of Amenia, ND; Julie (Percy) Scherbenske of Hampton, MN; Shelly (Steven) Lund of Battle Lake, MN; and Jamie (Mark) Gorder of Galchutt, ND; her ten grandchildren – Travis (Sarah) Hackey, Ryan (Michaela) Hackey, Carma (Dustin) DeVillers, Kim (Jesse) Kruger, Jodi Snyder, Terra Olson, Stephanie Lund, Courtney (Justin) Richter, Vincent (DeeAnn) Gorder, and Anne (Nick) Meyer; and her beloved great-grandchildren – Gia Hackey, Smith Hackey, Deaton DeVillers, Aurelia Devillers, Sonya Kruger, Elizabeth Snyder, Kyle Snyder, Chase Olson, Cole Olson, Paityn (Vincent) Shimanek, Jadyn (Connor) McLeod, Morgan Bruns, Caytlin Bruns, Blaine Richter, Maya Richter, Wade Gorder, William Gorder, Vivian Meyer, and James Meyer; and one great-great granddaughter, Millie Shimanek. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Pat Ostenson.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Donald King; her son-in-law, Bruce Hackey; and her sisters – Adeline (Herb) Bohlman, Blanche (Doug) Larson; and her brother, James Ostenson.

The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all of the loving staff at Mapleview Memory Care. The care and concern they showed to Betty, and to all of her family, will never be forgotten. The past few years, the staff at Mapleview became like family to Betty. Thank you for all that you do. The family is also thankful for the assistance from Hospice of the Red River Valley in Betty’s final days.
