Betty Kennedy (November 15, 1955 – December 1, 2024)
Born Betty Jo Schroeder to Susan K. (Krebs) and Henry C. Schroeder. Betty was raised on a farm near Regent, ND and attended St. Mary’s in New England, ND through elementary and high school. Betty married James Kennedy in Dickinson, ND on April 15, 1977. Jim and Betty lived in Dickinson with their family until 1990 when they moved to Jamestown, ND. Betty held many jobs through her life and raising a family: bank accountant, police dispatcher, retail sales at JoAnn’s Fabrics, religious education secretary and 27 years at JRMCC in the insurance and admissions department. Most recently Betty and Jim moved to Fargo to be near their children and grandchildren in their retirement years. Betty died from natural causes due to lung disease.
Betty’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, wine making and baking; she also enjoyed singing in the church choir and her friends from “Not Just Homemakers.” Betty loved being Nana to her grandchildren. Her favorite summer activity was “Nana Camp” when all the grandkids stayed for a week of fun. As the grandkids grew, she would send baked goods care packages but loved when they joined her in baking and could take the goodies home. Betty’s flower garden drew lots of attention in Jamestown and she loved to walk amongst her “bloomers.” As the family grew, and her nieces and nephews started having their own families, they could always count on Aunt Bet to send a flannel towel, blanket and burp clothes. Betty loved to share her wine creations with friends and family. Her favorite flavor was rhubarb, but she would experiment with tomato, grape, apple and chokecherry.
Betty is survived by her husband of 47 years, James; daughter Carissa (Waylon) Bertsch, their children Bradley, Lyndsie and Natalie; and son Jason (Stacy) Kennedy, their children Jocelyn, Jada, Jenna, Madeline and Logan; siblings Melvin Schroeder, Curtis (Maureen) Schroeder, James (Tammy) Schroeder, Henry (Cindy) Schroeder, Lester (LuAnn) Schroeder, Susan (Gary) Carlson, Rose Ann (Kevin) Germain, Timothy (Annette) Schroeder, Joseph (Lori) Schroeder, Vernon (Linda) Schroeder and Tina (Kevin Vrbsky) Schroeder. Betty is preceded in death by her parents (Henry and Susan), parents-in-law (Bernard and Roberta Kennedy) and one nephew (Ryan Flynn).

Betty was such a kind, pleasant and good person. My thoughts are with her family.
You have my deepest sympathy Jim, Carissa, and Jason. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let your perpetual light shine upon her forever. May she rest in peace.
So sorry to read of Betty’s passing. I am also a fellow employee at JRMC. Betty truly cared about her work and her fellow employees. Always enjoyed our times visiting. Share the good memories.
Betty was a neighbor to my parents. I always enjoyed looking over at her lush garden. Her yards were gorgeous. She was in her happy place when she was tending to them. I remember the summers seeing the grandkids coming to spend the week. Betty would be smiling from ear to ear. Betty was also talented with her wine making skills, I could always gain some tips from her. I’ll miss her conversations and light hearted view of the world. Rest in peace dear Betty.
Deepest sympathies to Betty’s family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
