He received all his education through St. Frances Academy in Hankinson and graduated high school in 1961. After graduation Blase continued to work for Vern Coppin as a laborer, a job he had started when he was 15 years old. In 1962 he went to work for JE Krieg and Sons Construction. In the early 1970’s, Blase started a construction company called Moritz, Gabel, Kramer Construction, with Vern Kramer and James Moritz. In 2003, Blase retired for 1 year to go on as many hunting and fishing adventures as he could. In 2004 he returned to school at the age of 61 for construction management at Minnesota Technical College and worked for RL Engebretson Architectural as a project manager until he retired in 2009. Blase took great pride in his construction abilities and would proudly point out the buildings he helped to build, including the Flying J Travel Plaza, FM RedHawks Stadium, and several buildings at NDSU.

On September 25th, 1965, Blase married the love of his life, Marlene Jaeger at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Hankinson, ND. They made their home and raised their family in Fargo, ND.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene and daughters, Denice (Craig) Aldrich of Fargo, ND; DeAnne (Ron) LaLonde of Fargo, ND; 5 grandchildren, Ciara (Thomas) Casler of Fargo, ND; Erika (Zach Nyberg) Aldrich of West Fargo, ND; Blake LaLonde of Fargo, ND; Maddison LaLonde of Fargo, ND; Skyler (Tanner) Cottam of Fargo, ND; 5 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Elias, Quinn, Emersyn, and Briar; brothers, Ray (Linda) Gabel of Alamo, TX; Kevin (Marlene) Gabel of West Fargo, ND; as well as many nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends that were very near and dear to his heart.

Blase was a member of Knights of Colombus, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for many years.
Blase had an incredible love for his family and was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Blase was an avid fisherman, and hunter. He enjoyed many deer, elk and pheasant hunting trips as well as many fishing trips with his sons-in-law, grandchildren, family and friends to Alaska, Canada, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Mexico to name just a few. Occasionally his wife Marlene would talk him into going on non-hunting trips and he always ended up having a good time.

He had a love for animals, especially his hunting dogs, Boomer, Chip, Grace, Gabe, and Gabby. He also loved watching old westerns and the History Channel.
