It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Charles Olson, a beloved husband, son, brother and retired Chief Master Sergeant in the North Dakota Air National Guard. Bob Olson, “Frontier Bob” as he was known by many of his friends was born on September 12, 1964, in Fargo, North Dakota. Bob passed away on September 8, 2024, at the U of M Medical Center.

A devoted son of Dale and Eileen Olson, Bob graduated from Fargo North High School in 1983 and earned a degree in Airplane Mechanics. With a deep sense of duty, Bob enlisted in the Air National Guard, dedicating 26 years of his life to serving his country before eventually retiring in 2010 as a Chief Master Sargeant.

Bob was united in marriage to his beloved wife Marjorie Olson on June 21, 1991. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and companionship, making cherished memories that will be forever treasured. They made their home in Fargo, Harwood, Kindred and Florida before returning to the rolling hills of Valley City. He loved life, all of his family, including his Golden’s and Brittanie’s, Boomer, Jake, Elwood, Libby and currently Archie and Edith, Archie was truly his buddy. He was the most patriotic man and loved his country with a passion. He was dedicated, smart, and the hardest worker and could fix anything and loved a challenge. He enjoyed, fishing, boating, shooting, music, the sound of birds at four a.m. and relaxing in our beautiful yard with all the new trees that he planted, watered and nurtured. Our lives will never be the same without him. May he rest in peace, we love you Bob.

He is survived by his wife Marg, his mother, Eileen, Carefree, AZ; sister, Nancy Lysaker, Carefree, AZ; brother-in-law, Leo (Suzanne) Toay, Maple Grove, MN, Kelly (Mark) Sertich, Grand Forks, ND, Paula Toay, Lake Bluff, IL, his brothers Dan Kohout, Elk River, MN, Paul Kohout, Delaware and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Dale Olson.

Memorial Service: 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 16, 2024 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with visitation staring at 9:00 A.M.

Burial with Full Military Honors: 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 16, 2024 at Fargo National Cemetery, rural Harwood, ND.

    Our mothers were close cousins and spent a lot of time together when we were very little. I have pictures of us hanging out as toddlers.
    May you rest comfortably in the arms of our Gracious Lord and Savior.

  3. I remember briefing Bob when I sent him off to basic training/ briefing basics is kind of like fishing, every once and a while you know you have a trophy. He used to stop at Hornbacher’s to visit with me after I retired, you have my sympathy and condolence upon his passing, Fly High – Young Friend – Fly High

  5. I knew Bob since we were in 5th grade at McKinley school in North Fargo. He was always good for a laugh or down for a fun prank! Condolences to his family ….he will truly be missed by everyone who knew him!

  9. Frontier Bob; Sir you will be missed. We had quite a few laughs in our time at the Air Guard. There was never a dull moment when you were around. I still have the Penny Stocks we both invested in around 2010. I am pretty sure they will finally make some money. We were certainly able to dream big. Marg, so sorry for your loss. You two were certainly made for each other. Rest in Peace Frontier Bob.

  10. So Sorry we could not be there to share in your celebration of Bob’s life. We watched the livestream and got to really get to know what an amazing guy he was. So glad he stopped procrasinating and is now with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  11. So sorry to hear the news about Bob. I worked with him for many years at the Air Guard, and then later he became my boss. You can only imagine all the great stories he would share! He will be missed by many. I watched the livestream and hope many will find peace in knowing how special Bob was and that he is celebrating in heaven!
