Bonnie Joanne (Moen) Plath, 72 years old, went home to heaven on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Bonnie was born on July 18, 1952, to James and Phyllis (Olsgard) Moen on Fort Eustis Army Base in Newport News, Virginia. She spent her early childhood living in Newport News before the family moved back home to Kindred, North Dakota. Bonnie attended Kindred Grade School and High School, and that is where she met the love of her life, Gregory A. Plath. After she graduated in 1970, Bonnie went on to pursue her education at North Dakota State College of Science, earning her LPN. She started out her nursing career at Dakota Hospital, working on the Maternity floor before finding her home on the Orthopedic surgical floor.
Bonnie married her sweetheart, Greg, on July 14, 1973, at Norman Lutheran Church in rural Kindred, ND. They welcomed their first child, Christopher, on September 21, 1978, and their daughter, Sara, on September 23, 1980. Bonnie’s new role as a stay-at-home mom started after Sara was born, but once Chris and Sara were in middle school, she decided to renew her LPN license. She began working at Dakota Hospital again, teaching CPR and First Aid classes, and continued teaching until Greg retired in 2007.
Bonnie loved spending her retirement years wintering in Gold Canyon, Arizona, where she enjoyed the countless Razor rides they would go on with their friends, the 4 pm daily “Happy Hours” at Tom & Joyce’s, and oh so many other adventures. Bonnie lived for anything and everything related to her three grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to video chat with the grandkids and was a true sport for the long car rides to numerous gymnastic meets, track meets, and taekwondo tournaments. And in true grandma fashion, she cheered for not only her grandkids but for all her other “grandkids” on the teams. No event was complete until she got her hug and picture. If she couldn’t be at an activity in person, Chris and Sara had to make sure they sent her numerous videos and pictures, so she knew exactly how everything went that day. Her grandkids were her pride and joy, and she loved sharing photos and stories of them with everyone. Bonnie also loved to cross-stitch in her free time, and so many of us are fortunate to have one of her works of art.
Bonnie is survived by her husband Greg Plath, her son Christopher (Becky Schilling) Plath (Yorktown, VA), her daughter, Sara (Zach) Anderson (Kindred, ND), her three grandchildren Caiden and Cylee Anderson (Kindred, ND), and Micah Plath (Yorktown, VA) and her sister Becky (Lee) Mindemann (Dent, MN). She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, along with her many nieces, nephews, and great friends.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Phyllis Moen, Aunt Yvonne Hedland, Uncle Myron Olsgaard, cousins Dean and David Hedland, and her mother and father-in-law, Don and Norma Plath.
Bonnie was so thankful for the beautiful quilt she received from the Norman Quilter when she came home on hospice. Her family would also like to thank all the amazing staff at Essentia Health Cancer Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Per Bonnie’s wish, all the flowers from her celebration will be donated to Hope Blooms.

I am so sorry to hear about Bonnie’s passing. I will always remember her wonderful smile and kindness.
Blessings to your family!
My deepest sympathies to Greg and all your family. If you remember, I was a year ahead of you, Bonnie, and my sister, Dianna. I loved spending time with her and her family – always so fun to be around – I can still hear her laugh even now – such a good person and so loving and caring. My thoughts and prayers continue for all of you. May your many memories help you through this very difficult time. God Bless!
To Bonnie’s Family, So heartbroken to hear this news. Hoping all the wonderful memories will bring you peace at this difficult time. It was nice to follow her on Facebook and see how proud she was of her family!
