Brian R. Nelson, 55, Fargo passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Essentia Health surrounded by family.

Brian was born June 28, 1956 in Minot, North Dakota to Ralph and Marilyn (Ness) Nelson. Brian grew up in Williston, and moved to Fargo during elementary school. He attended school in Fargo, graduating from Fargo South in 1974. Brian enlisted in the United States Navy after graduation and served from the base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. His involvement in un-classified missions throughout his career was a character building experience. He worked proudly in the Navy's Sea Bee Construction Battalion until being honorably discharged.

He moved back to Fargo where he worked various jobs before building a successful food brokerage business. After selling Nelson and Associates, he furthered his career and friendships in the legal research field while receiving many accolades and awards. Brian was forced to retire early due to health reasons. Brian continued to remain active in the community.

Brian's biggest passion was spending time with his family. Any activity he could spend with his sons was an activity he enjoyed. He loved to pheasant hunt as well as fish with his family and friends. The day the hunting season ended, was the day he began to plan for the next one to open.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Brian and I were early friends in life. I lived pretty close to him when they were on 5th Ave. We were Troup 204 Boy Scouts together for several years and my memories are very pleasant and vivid. He was a bit older and more ranked then me when I joined but he took me in and made me feel comfortable right away. We hung out at all the camps together and he brought joy to everyones life including mine. He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family

  16. Denver COMy deepest sympathy to Brian’s family. He was a great guy and I have many wonderful memories of us as kids. I was so sorry to hear of his passing so young.

  17. Goodland KansasI knew Brian from Fargo South class of 74, a great classmate. A big strong guy but I believe Brian having to wear a back brace at the time kept him from pursuing athletics, which was a shame because he was a monster, so Brian became the best student manager for a lot of our sports teams, a natural born helper. I knew his wife Terri sorry I never had the pleasure of meeting Kelly, Mason, Josh & Jake and other family & friends, my deepest condolences to you all.

  18. AZ Josh, Jill, Caden and the Nelson family,

My thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this difficult time.

  19. My deepest sympathy to the family for a life that ended too soon, may your hearts find comfort in knowing that Jehovah God cares for us, he provided a way for our sins to be forgiven – by his son, Jesus Christ – John 3:16, Psalms 83:18. One day soon, we will reap the benefits of Jesus death and resurrection, when all suffering and death will be no more – Revelation 21:3, 4 – and we will be reunited with our dear loved ones again here on earth -John 5:28, 29 -Psalms 37:11, 29.

  20. Josh and Jake
