Burnel Richard Heglie was born August 4, 1936 in Fargo, ND to Waldemar and Margaret Heglie (Dutton). He grew up and attended school in Moorhead. He worked at the Red River Scene Newspaper, Pronto Print in Fargo and then on his family farm, but printing and photography always remained his passion. Years later he was able to go back to printing at Richtman’s Printing and later Knights Printing where he worked until he retired.

He dedicated his life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1952. His faith was the most important thing to him and he spent as much time as possible sharing that faith with others. He looked forward to the wonderful promise of paradise found in Psalms 37:11.

July 16, 1960 he married Sharon Charlson in Delamere, ND. They raised their 3 children in Moorhead. Burnel died on March 18, 2024 in his home under Hospice care with his loved ones by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sharon, 1 son, Mark (Shelly), 2 daughters Janelle Frizzell, Jeanine (Mario) Campos, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 1 sister, Marguerite Detmers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Dutton and Waldemar Heglie.

  1. I had the pleasure of working beside Burnel for quite a long time at Richtman printing and at Knight printing and I have to say he was probably the kindest man I have ever known! I really enjoyed his friendship and stories my sincere prayers go out to Sharon and the whole family I will miss your visits !🙏🙏🙏

  2. Burnel and Sharon have been friends of mine for more years than I can recall. They were both by my side during most of the important events in my life. Burnel will always be remember by his most generous gifts of kind encouragement and support to all who knew him. We could all aspire to being more like him.

    • I was sadden to hear of Bernal’s death. While he lived a long full life there are so many that knew him and loved him that wish he were still with us. We find comfort knowing we will reunite in the resurrection. Sharon and family, may the Peace from God surround and sustain you in this sad time. I can’t wait to visit with again then! Love to all!

  3. His beaming smiles and hugs, his kindness, his knowledge are only a few of his attributes. I’m so glad to have known and been able to spend time with him and Sharon. They both enriched my life.

  4. I worked with Burnell at Knight and I so enjoyed our talks that we would have at the bindery table about many subjects. My thoughts go out to Sharon and family.
