Burt Elstad
February 6, 1928 ~ December 28, 2014
Burt B. Elstad 86, Fargo, died December 28, at Sanford Palliative Care Fargo surrounded by his family.
Burt was born February 6, 1928 in Bowbells, ND to John and Selma (Borreson) Elstad. He graduated from Bowbells High School in 1946 and joined the US Army in 1946. Upon his return in 1948 he attended and graduated from the NDSSS in 1950. He married Kathryn McCulloch November 23, 1956 in Fargo at First United Methodist Church, making their home in Fargo. Burt was employed in 1955 as a linotype operator at the Fargo Forum for 38 years retiring in 1993. Burt enjoyed gardening and spending time in the summer at Lost Valley Resort for the last 30 years. He was a member of the Eagles, Elks, and Sons of Norway.
Burt is survived by his wife Kathy, sons, Brian (Nancy) Washington D.C., Tom (Patricia Savant) West Falls, NY , daughter, Nancy (Terry) Buck Frazee, MN., 3 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, sister, Arlene Ayers, Fargo and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John, Robert, and Ellis.
Military honors and burial will be held this summer at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
The family wishes to thank the staff of 2 West at Sanford for their compassion and care.
