“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” The eternal morning came for Calvin George Scholl, 64, on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN when he entered fully into the presence of Jesus Christ. Calvin suffered with Parkinson’s disease for over twenty years. Calvin George Scholl was born to Raymond K. and Arlean (Schafer) Scholl on August 24, 1944 at Washburn, ND. Ray moved the family to Elm River Township near Grandin, ND in the Spring of 1947 where Calvin grew up with his siblings. Calvin attended school in the nearby town of Hendrum, MN and following graduation from Hendrum High School he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Arts and Science and a Master’s Degree in Entomology. He was active in the TKE Fraternity while at NDSU. Calvin was a member of the Army National Guard in Moorhead, MN and also joined the Air National Guard in Fargo, ND. Calvin’s desire to work with people in an agricultural setting resulted in his job as Assistant County Agent of Traill County and County Agent of Ward and Bottineau Counties. He returned to NDSU and did further studies and research in Entomology. Moving to Red Lodge, MT, Calvin worked for a crop dusting business and later joined the USDA as an inspector for diseased plants and crops crossing the borders. He worked extensively in Billings and Great Falls and also assisted state and federal programs working with U.S. customs and border crossings in several states throughout the country. Calvin received special recognition in the uncovering of illegal goods crossing the Sweetgrass, MT border. Calvin loved the outdoors and nature and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Other interests included studying the history of his family. He traveled to Salt Lake City, UT several times to research the genealogy of his ancestors. Calvin’s publications and studies are located in Bismarck, ND at the Heritage Center of the State Historical Society. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Arlean Scholl; and his nephew, Randy Scholl. He is survived by his sister, Sandra Scholl, Vass, NC, brother, Rayland C. (Bonnie L.) Scholl, Grandin, ND, sister, Kay Brekke, Bozeman, MT, brother, Harley (Bonnie K.) Scholl, Grandin, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Halstad Living Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley. The Funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hendrum, MN. There will be a Visitation at the Halstad Living Center from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Hendrum, MN. Arrangements entrusted to Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro, ND.
