Carol Lee Bernhardt, 68, Fargo, passed away February 21, 2013 at home surrounded by family, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.  Carol was born on December 17, 1944 in Fargo, to Edwin and Irene (Stevens) Brandvold.  She grew up in Moorhead, MN and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1962.  She married Francis “Frank” Bernhardt on May 25, 1963 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead.

Carol had a variety of jobs, before getting her real estate license.  She sold real estate for Encore Realty, where she worked for several years.  She later worked for the Title Company before starting Bernhardt Sheet Metal Inc. with her husband.

She enjoyed raising farm animals and gardening on their hobby farm, and playing horse shoes in her spare time.  Carol loved to spend time at Crystal Lake with her family at their cabin.  She had a wonderful sense of humor that will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

She is survived by her three sons, Brad (Linda), Dave (Deb), Jeff (Cindy); her siblings, John (Marion) Brandvold, Mary Hodny, and Elvina “Beanie” Johnson; four grandchildren, Bryce, Cody, Katie, and Amber; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; her sisters, Lorraine Westensee, Dolores Sauvageau; and her brother, Richard Brandvold.

  2. Richards Texas Sorry to hear of the death of Carol, we went to St. Josephs together and graduated from Moorhead High in 1962, May Purpetual Light shine on her, and may her soul rest in peace.

  3. Fargo ND
I worked with Carol while she was employed at the Title Company and I was the Corporate Closing Manager at Park Co., Realtors. She and Deb H. certainly made my job easier. She was a wonderful person and worked very hard. We would be faxing back and forth at 2:00am many times during the summer. I didn’t see her as often as I would have liked after she left the Title Co. I’m sure she will be greatly missed. To know her was to love her and I miss her.

  5. West Fargo Some of my favorite memories are the times my family spent at the Bernhardts when I was growing up. Even though it has been years since I have seen Carol, I will always remember her laughter, smile, and warm hugs. She comforted me when my Gramma Alma died by holding me and saying, “She is your angel in heaven now and she will be watching over you”, I will never forget this.
I send all of you prayers for your loss and I hope your memories ease your pain and provide you with comfort in the days ahead. She will be watching over you!
