Carol Eileen Malone (Herk) was born on August 6, 1940, in Valley City, North Dakota, to Arnold and Erna Herk. As the oldest of five children, Carol grew up surrounded by the love, laughter, and occasional chaos that comes with a big family. She enjoyed being a big sister and shared a close bond with her siblings throughout her life.
Carol spent her early years in Tower City and Davenport, North Dakota, before moving with her family to Fargo, where she graduated from Fargo Central High School. She met the love of her life, Darrell, while in Davenport and they married in 1962. Together they built a loving home and were blessed with one child, Beth.
Carol’s greatest joy was her family. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother and took pride in creating a warm and welcoming home. Whether she was shopping, decorating her home, or working on a craft project, Carol enjoyed adding beauty to the world around her.
Carol also loved getting together to visit with family and friends and was known for the delicious treats she made with love. Gathering around the table for dessert and a game of cards was one of her favorite things.
When the North Dakota weather warmed up, Carol could often be found outside tending to her flowers. She loved planting, making the yard look nice, and watching her flowers bloom throughout the summer. This brought her peace and happiness, and she took great pride in the beauty she created.
Carol will be remembered for her kind heart, creative spirit, and the love she shared with her family and friends. The memories she created and the care she gave to those around her will be cherished for years to come.
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Darrell; child, Beth (Jim) Roberts; grandchildren, Brooke and Josie Roberts; siblings, Jim (Judi) Herk and Don (Mary) Herk; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Donna Forness; and brother, Ken Herk.
