Carol Fliginger

Carol Fliginger passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 15, 2009, at Meritcare Hospital in the Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, ND at the age of 67. Carol Jean (Newark) Fliginger was born on November 27, 1942 in Grand Forks, ND to Harold and Dorothy (McCutcheon) Newark. She graduated from Garrison High School in 1960 then attended Minot State College in Minot, ND. Carol married Darrel Fliginger on October 4, 1961 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison, ND. She gave birth to three sons Todd (47), Troy (45), and Thane (41). Carol worked for 10 years at the Kirchen Agency in Garrison, ND. While in Garrison, she was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, maintaining continuous membership for over 40 years. Carol enjoyed many years as part of a top-ranked bowling team from Garrison, and bowled several years at National Bowling Tournaments. In 1982, Carol moved to Fargo, ND. She worked for Herberger’s Department Store in Moorhead, MN for 22 years, retiring in 2006. Frequently, she was an award winning sales associate for the store. Her customers were very loyal and often sought her out to help them with their purchases. Carol considered many of her co-workers family. Carol was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed the return of the annual Irish parade in downtown Fargo. Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day was one of her favorite days. She is survived by sons Todd (Minneapolis), Troy (Garrison), and Thane (girl friend Roxanne Miller) (Fargo); grandchildren Chase and Daysha Fliginger (Fargo); two sisters Judy (Roger) Schwinghammer (Fargo); Priscilla Randklev (Fargo); and one brother Ted Thompson (Houston, TX); four nieces and three nephews; and one step-niece and three step-nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Harold (killed in action in WWII) and Dorothy L. Thompson; one grandson, Thans Fliginger; sister-in-law, Olivia Thompson; and special friend Dennis Lee. Funeral on Saturday, December 19 at 1 pm in Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo, ND, visitation at 12 noon. Prayer Service on Friday, December 18 at 7 pm with visitation from 5pm to 7pm at Boulger Funeral Home Chapel 123 South 10th St, Fargo, ND. Boulger Funeral Home of Fargo is in charge of arrangements.
