Carol J. Tiernan was born March 3, 1935 in Crookston, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Mildred (Yetter) Tiernan. She grew up in Edgeley, ND and lived on the NDSU Experimental Station there. She graduated from Edgeley High School in 1952. Carol then moved to Fargo and Attended Interstate Business School. She was united in marriage to George E. Johnson on May 2, 1953 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo. They made their home in Moorhead until 1977 when they moved to Trowbridge Lake, MN. She worked as a secretary for Bristol Distributing, and later was employed in the sales department at W.W. Wallworks, Inc. until 1955. She then dedicated her time to raising her family. She returned to the work force in 1964 as secretary to the principal for Moorhead High School. She retired from that position in 1990. They moved to Pelican Lake in 1992 and then to Fargo in 2000.

She is survived by children, Michelle (Dan) Currier, Fargo, and Bud (Julie) Johnson, Detroit Lakes, MN; six grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband George; her children Edward Johnson, and Georgieann Johnson-Hjermstad, and grandson Spencer Johnson.

Moorhead High School and education were very important to Carol, so in lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Moorhead Spuds Scholarship Program: PO Box 1006, Moorhead, MN 56561.
