December 23, 1976 ~ May 7, 2021
The service will be livestreamed below starting at 9:45 AM. Casey Hokenson, 44, died May 7, 2021 in Fargo, ND. Casey was born December 23, 1976 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Jim and Jane (Neitzke) Hokenson of Detroit Lakes, MN. Casey grew up with his sister Christy in the surrounding Detroit Lakes area and graduated Detroit Lakes High School 1995. On May 3, 2002, he married Nicole Bauman in Fargo, ND. Nicole and Casey set their roots in Fargo, ND where they raised their three children Elliot, Lydia, and Maggie. Casey’s love for technology and strong work ethic landed him as Team Leader at Blue Cross Blue Sheild since 2006, where he took pride in his career and was beloved by his team. In his spare time, Casey never hesitated to lend a hand in helping his family and friends. He volunteered many hours for the Big Brother Program, Centennial Elementary PTO, and throughout the community. Casey was known to never shy away from a good joke. Some of his children’s favorite memories were the ones that makes them laugh the most. At the end of day, he would excitingly exclaim “Where’s my Maggie?” in silly voices and rally up the kids. He was known to ask Lydia to keep him looking young by grooming his grey hairs and liked to tease Elliot about his bold online usernames. He is survived by his wife Nicole, Fargo, ND; children, Elliot, Lydia, and Maggie, Fargo, ND; parents, Jim (Jane) Hokenson, Detroit Lakes, MN; siblings, Christy (BJ) Swanson, Osage, MN; in-laws Ronald (Bonnie) Bauman, Fergus Falls, MN; Chet (Lynn) Bauman, Columbia, TN; James (Jennifer) Bauman, Sioux Falls, SD; 4 nephews and 1 niece; and numerous cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. A private service will be held. Services will be livestreamed 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13, on Boulger Funeral Home’s website.

He was a fantastic role model and a force to be reckoned with when it came to benefitting our children and our school. His great sense of humor, giant smile and the willingness to do just about anything will be what I remember most about him. Heart of Gold! One of a Kind!

Oh Nicole. I know too well emotional tsunami you’re experiencing right now. May I share some things I learned in my own grief journey?
1. You have a future; it’s just not the one you planned.
2. Be patient with yourself as you process; rely on family and friends
3. You and the kids can honor Casey’s generous, fun, caring legacy by each adopting and owning one of the traits you loved in him
God plopped me right next door to the Hokenson’s for a season so Casey could take care of the new widow next door. And that he did. I don’t know how I would have made it through that first two years without your husband’s kindness.
You are all in my prayers.

Very Sorry Nicole and family–Casey was a and still is a great guy. I was your neighbor in South Fargo when you first bought that house. Remember feeding your cat when you all where gone. Then came Elliot–but you wouldn’t let me give him a beer. LOL
Casey always had a smile on his face-no matter the pranks I pulled on him. I did watch the funeral on line and cried the whole time. Keep the memories and keep being the best Mom you can be. It will take time-more time then we think. Casey is now watching over you and those children.
Nicole and Family, sending you love and sympathies. Casey was an amazing friend and co-worker. There will always be fond memories of his smile. Please take care of you during this difficult time. Much Love Cheryl Muir
