Charlene Crommett

charlene crommett
Charlene Marie Crommett was born October 15, 1953, the first child to Chloris and Ambrose Steidl of Fingal, N.D. Driven, dedicated, and bright, Charlene graduated Valedictorian of her high school class and went on to pursue a career in nursing. She met, fell in love with, and married Charles Crommett of Warwick, N.D., on Sept. 29, 1973. In 1984, Charles and Charlene made their home in Kindred, N.D. At that time, Charlene accepted a position with the Diocese of Fargo as the Pro-Life director. Charlene was a tireless advocate for the unborn and worked to promote and defend human life from conception to natural death. In 1991, she was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor and was given eighteen months to live. Though her health steadily declined, much to her doctors’ surprise and her family’s delight, she outlived that prognosis, turning 18 months into 18 years, the last three in the care of staff of Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo. Surrounded by her family, Charlene died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at age 55 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. She will be remembered for her tenacity and kindness, love for her family and ready smile. She is survived by her husband, Charles; sons Brian (Erin), and Brent; daughter, Denelle Crommett; parents, Ambrose and Chloris Steidl; brothers Gary (Carole) Steidl, and Leon (Roxanne) Steidl. Also, three grandsons, Kaleb, Gabriel and Nicholas. She is preceded in death by a son, Bradley. Services: Visitation will be Monday (June 1) from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in Fredrickson Funeral Chapel, Kindred. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 in St. Maurice’s Catholic Church in Kindred. Burial: St. Benedict’s Cemetery, Wild Rice, N.D.
