Charles W. Nelson, 76, Hillsboro died Monday, September 5 in his home under the care of his loving wife and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Charles was born October 26, 1934 in Hillsboro, N.D. to Carl and Edna (Nelson) Nelson. He was baptized on January 13, 1935 at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Hillsboro. He grew up in Hillsboro and attended country school in Hillsboro Township School.

Charles married Donna Gisvold on November 8, 1958 in his parent's home in Hillsboro. To this union, four kids were born.  Charles loved to play any kind of ball with his kids and followed his children and eventually grandchildren in various sporting activities during their school years.  Charles will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.  Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Charles loved decorating for the holidays especially Christmas when he was well known for his lights and displays.  He enjoyed working in his yard and took great pride on its appearance.  In his later years he enjoyed spending time at the lake with family and friends.

Charles worked at Skelly Oil, Lindgren Buick, Hillsboro Auto and Mayville Motors in parts and later sales until health problems forced him to retire.  He enjoyed having coffee with the coffee crew until he was no longer able.

Charles is survived by his loving wife and caretaker, Donna Nelson, Hillsboro, N.D.; children, Dave (Tammy) Nelson, Hillsboro, N.D., Randy, West Fargo, N.D., Jolene (Kent) Sand, West Fargo, N.D., Janelle (Mark) Hochstetler, Sarasota, FL, grandchildren; Brad Nelson, Craig (Sara) Nelson, Lisa (Issac) Risbrudt, Molly Nelson, Derek, Kenna Jo and Kennedi Sand, and Alexis, Landen and Lauren Hochstetler, great-grandchildren; Caden, Kellan and Brinley Risbrudt and Nash Nelson, sisters; Marlys (Ernie) Grotte, Finley, N.D., Geraldine Johnson, Mesa, A.Z., brother; Duane Nelson, Hillsboro, N.D., and sister-in-law; Margaret Nelson, Moorhead, M.N.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Monroe and Kenten.
