Cheryl Kaye Klein, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully at age 77, surrounded by her family and friends.

Cheryl was born on March 18, 1946, in Jamestown, ND, to Bernard (Ben) Jund and Laura (Bauer) Jund. Cheryl was the youngest of five children, was raised in Zeeland, ND, where her father operated a Sweetheart Bread Delivery route, and later owned the Zeeland Super Valu grocery store. Her mom was a lifetime elementary school teacher. Cheryl frequently worked at her dad’s grocery store, delivered a weekly newspaper, and sold tickets at the Saturday night City Hall theater. Cheryl graduated from Zeeland High School, and Wahpeton State School of Science, and began her work career at the McIntosh County Bank, Ashley, ND. Her small-town values, growing up in Zeeland, served her well, as she developed a strong work ethic, an appreciation for her friends and family, and an endless capacity to visit, laugh, tell stories, create memories; Cheryl was proud of her Zeeland roots and her German-Russian heritage.

She married Bob Klein on July 4, 1965, and they spent the next 58 years together. They moved to Bismarck, and Zeeland before making their home in south Fargo in 1984. She concluded her work career at Fargo North High School after 25 years as an administrative assistant. She was proud of her career, the teachers she worked with, and her administrative colleagues. She had a “special attachment” to the Special Education students at North High School.

Cheryl was a loving wife, a caring and loving mom to their three sons, a proud grandmother to six grandchildren, and a devoted Christian. As a lifetime member of Nativity Catholic Church, she was devout in her faith and prayed endlessly for her family and friends. She was a passionate supporter of St. Jude’s Research Hospital. Cheryl believed that “Cardinals appear when Angels are near” that when you see one it’s a visitor from heaven. Cheryl will be remembered for being a loyal friend, kind and generous, having a soft heart, always available for a listening ear, a heartfelt conversation, and a comforting hug. She will also be remembered for her unconditional love and devotion to her family. She loved family get-togethers, large Easter and Christmas celebrations and meals for everyone to indulge.

Cheryl loved to crochet, she created and painted her Christmas Nativity set, she loved to read, loved puzzles, and loved to visit. Cheryl had a quick wit, a mischievous sense of humor, and was a skilled card player. She enjoyed dancing, especially the polka. Holidays, especially Christmas, and birthdays were special family get-togethers. She will be remembered for her Christmas caramel fudge. Cheryl enjoyed traveling, vacationing with Bob to Europe, the Bahamas, Hawaii, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, with annual family trips to Idaho and Nevada, and NDSU Football playoffs in Frisco, TX. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bob; sons, Tom (Rebecca), Michael “Mick”; grandsons, Zachary and Benjamin; granddaughters, Megan (Jack), Macie, Myah, and Presley; brother-in-law, Vernon Pfeifer; brother, Jon (Barbara) Jund; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Beverly) Klein, and Allan (Cathy) Klein.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Robert “Rob” Anthony; her parents, Ben and Laura Jund, her brother, James; sisters, Kathleen and Judy; and foster brother, Joe Fisher. She is also preceded in death by her in-laws, Daniel and Katherine Klein, brother-in-law, Daniel James Klein; and sister-in-law, Brenda Klein.

The Klein family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Bethany on University and Ethos Hospice for the loving care they provided Cheryl during her stay.

The Klein family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at: stjude.org/donatetoday.

  8. Sorry for your loss. I am so grateful to have to known Cheryl. She was a lovely lady. I will miss her very much.

  9. Cheryl was such an amazing woman! I had the huge pleasure of working with her at North . She was definitely an advocate for all staff and students. I can’t count the times Cheryl would work with me to support students- students that were at times a challenge to love – but love them she did. Kids who needed lunch money, clothes, a place to stay, an adult who cared… she reached out to find someone who could help. When she became a grandmother- I often told her when I became a Grammy – I wanted to be like her… unconditional love shown. Her faith was demonstrated through her actions.
Her traditions & celebrations were unparalleled! I loved she collected nativity scenes & I remember searching for unique ones to add to her collection. Her smile was contagious. May God rest her beautiful soul🙏 She will always have a special place in my heart & I was blessed to know her.

  10. Hugs to you three men – Bob, Tom, and Mick
I feel that all of you and your wonderful mother are part of my life through the Fargo Schools. Bob your joy and gracious smile made me glad even as I knew you were there for ‘contract’ work. Tom and Mick – South High and music are forever linked to you in my heart along with the time that was spent just talking and wanting to hug you as you left the room for the happiness you shared. AND YOU PRECIOUS CHERYL – She was a welcoming spirit in the North High office. She appreciated the work that went on in the school. She cared about the teachers and the students as individuals. She especially encouraged our special needs kiddos. When folks like me arrived in the office it was to a genuine greeting and an invitational smile. My heart is with you all. I feel assured that she was greeting with a ‘host of angels’ on the 22nd. HUGS, Nancy

  11. Reading the comments above tells me Cheryl did what the Lord instructed us to ——take care of others in need. Rest in peace Cheryl with the Lord. A friend from Zeeland.

  12. The Armand Bauer family sends their sympathy and love.
We grew up with Cheryl and her sisters. We would often visit her family in Zeeland. They were our grown up cousins and as little girls we adored her. She often as a teenager would try to hid from us but we always found her in the store or the cafe or at the movies on Saturday night.
Cheryl will always have a special place in our hearts.
