Christopher Deckard

christopher deckard

Christopher Edward Deckard, 26, died Sunday, November 25, 2012.  He was living in Grand Forks, ND at the time.  Christopher was born February 3, 1986, to proud parents, Edward and Brenda Deckard in Fargo, ND.  He grew up in the embracing arms of the First Presbyterian Church, further supported by his Boy Scout and 4-H club families and academic communities of Clara Barton Elementary, Agassiz, Discovery, and South High schools in Fargo.  A constant guiding light in his early academic life was Michelle Vannote.  Chris also graduated with Honors from Minnesota State Technical College in Moorhead, Minnesota. He worked with several plumbing companies in Fargo and Grand Forks, where he earned his Journeyman license of which he was very proud.  Christopher also gave back to the communities through many volunteer and service activities.

He married Sara Miller, in Fargo, ND, and they have three beautiful daughters: Kendalyn, Abigail, and Charleigh.  In addition to Sara and his daughters, he is survived by his parents; grandparents, Louisa Deckard (Bloomington, IN) and Edna Waslaski (Valley City, ND); god-parents, Michael McMullen and Marcia McMullen, sisters, Jennifer Dynes(St. Paul, MN) and Kristine Malia (Bloomington, IN); nephews, Robert and Mason; and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends.  Christopher was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Nellie Montgomery; grandfathers, Ernest “Pat” Deckard and Eddie Waslaski; and “Grandma G”, Racheal Gregoire.

Christopher joined the North Dakota Army National Guard Unit 141 MEB and was trained at the chemical, biological, radiation, and nuclear school.

The First Presbyterian Church was important to Christopher, where many friendships and memories developed.  Family and traditions were very important to Christopher.  He passed on those traditions to his children.   Road trips to extended family members provided wonderful memories, as did many other family visits.  Christopher was loved by his family, his church family, as well as his National Guard family; everyone will always remember his sensitivity, kind and generous heart, contagious smile, sense of humor, artistic flair, and ability to imagine.  Christopher was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, and he was extremely proud to be a husband and father.   Christopher will be missed by many but his light will shine on and on forever.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Christopher’s name.
