Clifford passed away on Friday, October 31, 2003, at MeritCare Hospital South University - Palliative Care Unit - at the age of 82. Clifford W. Asmus was born on May 1, 1921, the son of John R. and Clara (Ramsey) Asmus, in Rosendahl Township, Griggs County, North Dakota. He attended school and grew up in the community. He joined the civilian conservation corps and was stationed at Middle River, Minnesota. He was drafted into the Army Air Corp in November of 1942, and honorably discharged February 6, 1946, having obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 19th Photo Heavy Recon on B-17's. Clifford returned to Griggs county after his discharge and he married Ruth E. Adamson on September 28, 1957, in Montevideo, Minnesota. In 1959, they moved to Fargo. Clifford was employed by Vic?s Service in Moorhead before joining Mobil Oil Corporation in 1963. Clifford worked with Mobil until 1974, when he went to work for Steiger Tractor where he worked until he retired in 1987. Clifford was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. As a veteran, he was a life member of VFW Post #762; Cooties Pup Tent #1; and Amvet Post #7. He was also a member of American Legion Post #2. Clifford served as Commander of the VFW Post 762 from 1989 - 1990 and 1999 - 2000. He was Cootie of the Year from 1997 - 1998. Clifford was also a Deputy Representative of the Veteran Administration Volunteer Service from 1993 - 2003 when his illness forced him to resign. Clifford is survived by his wife, Ruth; 2 daughters, Barbara Danielson and Laurie Asmus. A granddaughter, Sara Danielson and a special friend, Rod Krueger, all of Fargo. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Julia Asmus of Binford, ND; and Inez L. Jackson of Seattle, Washington; and 2 nieces and 1 grand nephew. He is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jerry Danielson; his parents; and his in-laws, Art and Margaret (Wells) Adamson. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be sent to Roger Maris Palliative Care unit or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
