Resided in: Gardner, North Dakota

Cuyler Rahier Colwell was known before the creation of the world and was knit together in his mother’s womb, he took his first breath on July 5, 1935, and his last breath and met his creator face to face May 10, 2026.

He became one with his wife Ruth Eleanor Disher of Churchs Ferry, ND on June 23, 1956, and was faithful to his marriage vows for nearly seventy years, until the end of his life. They were blessed with three children, Jay D, Kelly Cuy, and Tracy Jo who are all good looking and a little above average.
Cuyler attended school in Gardner, ND and graduated from high school in 1953. After graduation he attended Wahpeton State School of Science until he was called home to attend to the farm after the death of his father.

An active participant in the community, Cuyler served on many boards, the school, township, and elevator boards, he was most proud of his service on the Cass Rural Water Board acting as president and secretary and spent many hours traveling to get water customers.

Cuyler was the 4th generation to take over the family farm. After his retirement, his son, Jay. became the 5th generation to farm the homestead.

He enjoyed his family and as the family grew, he was very fond of teasing his grandchildren by pretending to bite them as they played with his beard. Other interests included hunting and fishing, dancing, playing hearts, pinochle and whist card games with family and friends. Most of all he loved his time on the tractor.

Cuyler is survived by his wife Ruth; son Jay (Victoria) Colwell; and two daughters Kelly (Dennis) Elge and Tracy (Kevin) Williams. He was blessed with nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, plus two more on the way. He is also survived by two sisters Joyce Bryant and Karen Carlson; and one brother Kim (Beverly) Colwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Violet (Knutson) Colwell; sister June Brock; and brothers-in-law Tom Bryant, Dale Brock, and Roger Carlson.
