Cyril J. Fischer, 84, Fargo, died Thursday, April 14, 2006, at the VA Hospital, Fargo, ND. Cyril Fischer was born June 30, 1921, the son of Eugene and Mary Ann (Meyer) Fischer near Langdon ND. He grew up and attended school in the area. In 1940, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps throughout northeastern North Dakota. Cyril was inducted into the U.S. Army December 19, 1942 at Fort Snelling. While in combat duty in France with the 30th Infantry Division of the European Theatre, he was wounded in action. He received the Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Purple Heart. After being discharged from the army, he attended and graduated from the State School of Science in Wahpeton. He married Frances Hoffarth on October 24, 1951 in Mt. Carmel, ND. They farmed in the Langdon area for many years, including the farm where Cyril was born and raised. In 1994, they moved to Fargo, where they enjoyed retirement, traveling, and many activities together. He is survived by his wife, Frances; sons, Lynn (Sharon), Glendale, AZ, and Eric (Anita), Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Janelle (Tyler) Schafer, Melissa Fischer, Bryan Fischer, and Bryce Fischer; and three sisters, Iris (Lyle) Lothspeich, Langdon, ND, Janice Zettle, Menasha, WI, and Patricia (Ray) Nelson, Sumner, WA. His parents, brothers Neil, James, and Alton, sisters Phyllis and Delores, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donors? choice. Memorial Service: 2:00 pm Thursday, April 20, Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo, ND Interment: Holy Cross South Cemetery, Fargo, ND Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
