Dalice Joyce Ebsen

March 30, 1928 ~ December 16, 2025

Born in: Fargo, North Dakota
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Dalice Ebsen, 97, of Fargo, ND, passed away at St. Catherine’s nursing home on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Dalice Joyce Halvorson was born in Fargo, ND to Frederick (Fred) and Hannah Halvorson on March 30, 1928. She grew up and went to school in Fargo until leaving to join the workforce during her sophomore year. For the latter part of her teen years, the spunky and free-spirited Dalice worked various jobs in Ohio, California, and Washington State before moving back to Fargo.

On November 2, 1947, Dalice married Lee Ebsen, with whom she went on to raise seven children: Cheryl (Roger) Jordheim, Randy Ebsen, Leslie (Harry) Burgess, Jamie (the late Scott) Viker, Jon Ebsen, Scott (Michelle) Ebsen, and Christopher Ebsen. Throughout her life, Dalice held a variety of jobs and positions, but her most cherished one was being a loving and devoted mother to her children and grandmother to her 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

During the early years, Dalice and Lee raised their children in Fargo and West Fargo, before moving to the country south of Horace and then near Kindred. Eventually, Dalice moved back to Fargo, where she spent her retirement and later years. Dalice had a strong love for learning, earning her GED in her late 40s, and later attended Interstate Business College. She was an avid reader, a hobby she enjoyed and continued throughout her lifetime. In her free time, Dalice also liked playing cards, going dancing, and taking the occasional trip to the casino. Her favorite pastime, however, was spending time with family and friends whom she loved. She was always up for a game of cards and a cup of tea, and she looked forward to and cherished these moments.

Dalice was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, son Christopher Ebsen, grandson Chris Ebsen, and husband Lee. She is survived by her six children, 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dalice taught us that life isn’t measured in wealth or material goods but is instead measured in family, friends, and the memories made with those we love. In a recent journal entry, Dalice wrote 1 Corinthians 13:13: “Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.” To know Dalice was to love Dalice and, in turn, be loved by her. She was truly one-of-a-kind and a light to everyone who knew her. No words will sufficiently capture the love and beauty who was Dalice Ebsen. She will be dearly missed, but we take solace in knowing she has been reunited with her Heavenly Father.

The family will hold a private service. In honor of Dalice, donations can be given to the upkeep of the Walcott Cemetery and Veterans Memorial, Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo, or St. Benedict’s Cemetery in Wild Rice, ND, where Dalice will be laid to rest.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Our condolences to the Ebsen family. Dalice was a special friend to our family, especially my mom. I always enjoyed my time when with Dalice as she had a very special way about her. Her passing is a tremendous loss to her family and those that knew and loved her. Heaven welcomed a very special Angel. I will always cherish the special memories I have of Dalice.

  2. To the entire Ebsen family, may your many fond memories of Dalice give you peace and comfort in the days ahead. Dalice lived a long and wonderful life. I still remember the first time I met your parents and family when you moved to the farm over 60 years ago. I thought that all of you were going to be great neighbors. You were!

  3. I spoke with Husnija Kovac in Darmstadt Germany and he wanted me to give the family condolences. He adored Dalice and her children that came to visit at Crossroads. Prayers and condolences from Husnija Kovac and Karla Bjorem.
