Daniel Cichos

daniel cichos

Daniel J. Cichos, 59 of Fargo, died Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Innovis Health in Fargo under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Daniel James Cichos was born on June 21, 1951 in Jamestown, ND to Paul and Susan (Prodzinski) Cichos.  He graduated from high school in Jamestown where he excelled in football and track and still holds a standing record for the 880 yard race.  He served in the US Marine Corps for 3 years including a tour in Vietnam.  Dan married Peggy Janke on November 30, 1974 in Jamestown.  They lived in Fargo where Dan worked for Gateway Building Systems until his illness.  He was a dedicated employee who was greatly respected by his co-workers.  Dan enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and enjoyed following sports.

Dan was a very unselfish man.  Everyone, especially his children and grandchildren, came before his own needs.  He enjoyed spoiling his grandkids and could not turn down a request to go to the neighborhood park or take the family dog, Alphie on a long walk.  A more humble man you will never meet.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dennis.

Dan is survived by his wife, Peggy of Fargo; children, Angie (Ronnie) Holm of Fargo, Paul (Kayla) Cichos of Fargo, Patrick Cichos of Fargo; grandchildren, Madison, Grace and Connor Holm, Lauren Cichos and one granddaughter expected in October; brother, Kenneth (Fran) Cichos of Bellflower, CA; sister, Diane (Doug) Essig of Shevlin, MN; brother, Jerry (Karen) Cichos of Bismarck, ND; brother, John "Jack" Cichos of Ft. Smith, AR and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dan was my classmate and what a champion runner! I was on the track team with Dan. ALways a joker and I always looked forward to practice time with him.
One of my most favorite memories: Dan received a tax refund and during our track practice, Dan informed us that during our run that day we would stop at the Polar King Drive Inn and have burgers and he would pay for the bill. That day was the greatest practice of the season. He picked up the bill and coach Hanson thought we did our run as well.
Dan was always a generous friend. He was wity and quick to joke. I’m so sorry to hear about his death. Coach Hanson phoned me last week informing me Dan was ill.
I will never forget Dan, God Bless his family.
