Danielle A. Messmer
April 19, 1973 ~ February 11, 2024
Danielle April Messmer passed away unexpectedly at Essentia Hospital on Sunday, February 11th, surrounded by family and friends.
Danielle was born April 19, 1973 in Valley City, ND. She was the second child to James and Janel Messmer and was raised in Lisbon, ND. Danielle loved being a big sister and was the number one fan at her brothers’ events. Danielle graduated from Lisbon High School in 1992, and shortly after graduation moved to Fargo where she continued her education, began her career at MeritCare, and raised her son Alexander, who was her pride and joy! After Alex graduated high school, Danielle was blessed with her second child, Zahara. She was so excited to have a little girl to dress up in the prettiest, frilly outfits. Danielle, Alex, and Zahara loved to spend time together watching their favorite movies, TV series, and playing with their beloved animals.
Danielle devoted her life to helping others with house projects as she shared her talents as a master painter and wallpaper hanger. She was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews, as she would drop anything she was doing when they called. We will always remember Danielle’s baking and the most decadent cupcakes that she would generously bring to graduations and birthdays. Danielle never met someone she could not talk to and was a friend to many. She often shared her thoughtful nature and caring heart by making beautiful memorial frames that she would gift to those who lost a loved one. She was looking forward to welcoming and loving her first grandchild in February 2024, but her children will undoubtedly carry-on cherished memories of her life and share with her future grandchildren. Danielle’s selfless nature was shown through to the end of her life, as she made the decision to be an organ donor, ensuring her legacy will live on by giving life to others.
Danielle was proceeded in death by her father, James and grandparents Robert and Norma Messmer and Neil and Bonnie Spitzer and Elmer Nogosek. Aunt and Uncle Joan and Tony Rhodes.
She is survived by her mother, Janel, Fargo, ND. Son and daughter-in-law, Alexander and Margaret and grandson, Theodore Messmer, Fargo, ND. Daughter, Zahara Messmer, Fargo, ND. Sister and brother-in-law, Holly and Scott McDaniel, Englevale, ND. Brother Justin Messmer, Nampa, ID. Brother and sister-in-law, Zacharie and Heather Messmer, West Fargo, ND. Sister and brother-in-law, Quincey and Matt Messmer-Mjones, Fargo, ND. Brother Gabriel Messmer, Fargo, ND. Beloved nieces and nephews: Soren (Hannah), Hayden, Hadley, and Griffen McDaniel. Emma and Ava Messmer. Lily, Loghan, and Zy Messmer. Jameson, Knoxx, and Sloane Messmer-Mjones. Olivia Waswick and Kyle Potts, family friend, Duane Lura, and many additional friends and family that are going to miss her dearly.
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.
— Clare Harner, The Gypsy, December 1934
