Dr. Danuta Krasniewska
March 1, 1927 ~ June 17, 2023
Danuta Krasniewska passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023, at the age of 96, in her home at Farmstead Living Center in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Danuta Bozena Teresa Zawisza was born on March 1, 1927 in Wloclawek, Poland, to Emil, a career military officer and Irena, an employee of Polish National Bank. Her education was interrupted by World War II. Although schooling was forbidden during those years, she continued taking her classes in secret. At the same time, she worked in a movie theater, a sugar factory, and digging anti-tank trenches.
After the war, she returned to school to complete her education. In 1952, Danuta graduated from the Dental Department of the Medical Academy in Lodz, and subsequently practiced as a dentist until her retirement. She also completed the Reserve Officers’ School of the Polish Armed Forces, graduating as a Second Lieutenant. On July 2nd, 1954, she married Stanislaw Krasniewski, a general surgeon. They continued to live in Wloclawek, raising their two sons.
Danuta enjoyed traveling, as well as entertaining for all occasions. She excelled in sewing and embroidery, resurfacing traditional Polish patterns that she would meticulously recreate for family and friends. She had a passion for cooking and baking, and was often admired for those skills by those lucky enough to be at her table. She cared for her family and grandchildren, splitting time between their households in the United States and Poland.
In 2005, afflicted by the sudden onset of serious illness, Danuta relocated permanently to the United States, where she lived in assisted living facilities in close proximity to her family. She continued to travel, both domestically and abroad, until a year ago.
Danuta was preceded in death by her husband, Stanislaw, her parents, and her brother, Januszek. She is survived by her two sons, Witold Krasniewski (Lidia), Fargo, ND and Zdzislaw Krasniewski (Malgorzata), Kielce, Poland; her four grandchildren, Ania Krasniewska Shahidi (Christopher), New York City, NY; Michael Krasniewski (Amanda), Corpus Christi, TX; Karolina Krasniewska, Warsaw, Poland, and Konrad Krasniewski, Kielce, Poland; and her great-grandchildren, Clara and Stanley, and Gabriella and Madeleine.

My heart and prayers go to this fine woman and her children and grandchildren. I met her in Zakopane PL and subsequently enjoyed her company in ND and FL. Our lives were graced with her love.
Hugs to all of you who knew her and loved her. I am certain she will be greatly missed.
With love,
