David Hetland Hillsboro, North Dakota Formerly of Hannaford, North Dakota David passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at the Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital at the age of 64. David was born on June 23, 1944 in Sharon, ND the son of Charles and Mildred (Knutson) Hetland. David?s Christian life began with his baptism and later confirmation at Faith Lutheran Church in Hannaford. He grew up on the family farm near Hannaford and later graduated from Hannaford High School. David was united in marriage to Dorothe Jean Anderson on June 24, 1964, and to this union four children were born. They raised their family and farmed for 32 years in the Hannaford area raising small grains and sheep. David retired from farming in 1997 and they moved to Hillsboro. David lived his faith everyday - he was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, a council member, deacon, confirmation mentor and active volunteer in selfless service to the Lord. He was also past chair of the Sheyenne Valley Power Company, a board member for the MinnKota Power Company and Square Butte Power Company and past chair of the Farmer?s Union Oil Company, served as treasurer of Helena Township, and served on the rural water board. He was active in the Democratic Party and on the Traill County Museum Board and worked with the tractor pull each year. David also worked as a grave digger for the Quam Plaistad Funeral Home and in later years worked for area farmers helping during harvest. He obtained his insurance license and worked as an agent for over 11 years. David is survived by his loving wife, Dorothe Jean of Hillsboro; his children and grandchildren, David Jr. Hetland of Oak Creek, WI ? and his children, Jonathon and Jacob; Richard (Julie) Hetland of Fargo ? and their children, Ray and Alexander; Dale (Ruth) Hetland of Fargo ? and their daughter, Emma; and Karoll Walsh of Brooklyn Park, MN? and her children, Dominique and Tawny; and his mother, Mildred Hetland of Hillsboro. Also surviving are his brothers, Charles Jr. (Dianne) Hetland and Allen (Yvonne) Hetland both of Hannaford; and many very special sisters and brothers in law; and nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father, Charles Sr.; and his grandparents.
