David L. Martinson

david martinson

David (Dave) Lowell Martinson passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024, after a sudden and unexpected cancer diagnosis. He spent his last few days in hospice, surrounded by his family and friends.

Dave was born on November 26, 1955, in Biloxi, MS, to parents Lowell and Mavis. He grew up in Twin Valley, MN, and attended Gary and Twin Valley High School, where he excelled playing basketball and football. He spent several summers running the projector at Marty’s Drive-In, the family business, in Twin Valley. After graduating from Twin Valley High School in 1974, he attended Concordia College on a full ride football scholarship and graduated in 1978. In 1986, he completed his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Logan College of Chiropractic and worked as a chiropractor in Fargo, ND, for many years.

He loved spending time with his children, Garrett and Sophie, future son-in-law, Mark, and grandpup, Teddy. He loved cars and racing, and enjoyed many years on or at the race track in Jamestown and West Fargo. Dave’s passion in life was helping people any way he could, whether through his chiropractic care, or just listening and giving advice. In his retirement, he enjoyed tinkering with cars, going to the races, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, happy hours at Mexican Village with Sophie and Bob, and spending time with his extended family.

In his last few days in hospice, so many of his former patients reached out to his family to tell stories about how much Dr. Dave helped them throughout the years and how grateful they were for his treatments and advice. Regardless of age, he often greeted many with a “hey there young man,” or “young lady,” and loved to encourage everyone to “have a phenomenal day.” He will be incredibly missed by his family and friends. Dave lived his life fully and had such a positive attitude that spread to everyone he spent time with.

Dave is survived by his children, Garrett and Sophie (fiancé Mark Richardson), stepdaughter Cass, his mother, Mavis Hedin, father, Lowell (Pat) Martinson, sisters Randi (Denny) Draeger, Lisa (Pete) Pederson, and Tammy (Grant) Pederson, former spouse, Carol Raney, good friend Bob Johnson, many nieces and nephews, and so many friends whom he loved dearly.

Dave is preceded in death by his stepfather, Joe Hedin.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Dave’s sudden passing shocked and sadden us all. Although we hadn’t seen each other in years, I have fond memories of our high school days. We spent so many good times together, cruising in his Corvair, listening to “the Dan”, playing golf and of course shooting hoops. Even though I lived far away when I came back to the area I would always try to check in with him and was impressed with the growth of his practice. Condolences to his family and may God’s comfort and strength guide you in this difficult time.

So long “Ducey Shoes”, you will be missed by us all.

  2. So sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. My heart goes out to you all. I have great memories of spending time with your family. This is not supposed to happen. Sending love and hugs at this difficult time.

  3. Dave was my first chiropractor, from the time I was a baby in fact, and no adjustment by anyone else has ever compared to his care and treatments! He was always a joy to be around, so warm and welcoming with a smile that lit up the room. He will be remembered fondly and missed dearly. Thoughts and prayers with your family during this difficult time.

  4. My family and I were his patients for years. But it feels like much more, he was a friend, confidant, coach, influencer and professional doctor. I’m shocked and saddened beyond measure.

  5. Dave, you will be missed. You always had a smile on your face for people, no matter what you dealing with at the office or at the races.

  6. Dave, you will be missed by everyone you came into contact with. You were the best chiropractor I have ever had. You had a smile no matter what and were always there for your patients.

    • Such a shock! Just talked to him a few months ago and he was concerned about his parents.♥️So very sorry to hear this news. We laughed about back when and bragged about our kids and , grandkids!! I’m grateful to of had that last conversation with him!🙏Sincere sympathy to all family and friends.❤️

  7. Rest in peace Dr. Dave. We are going to miss spending time at the races with you. Thoughts and prayers to all of Dave’s family during this difficult time.

  8. Dr.Dave, I find it hard to believe your gone, but who could forget you? I knew Dr.Dave for 39 years, I referred many patients to him and got some from him too, It was a interesting day when he went truck driving. I remember when we would talk about his kids and debate supplements and all the tech stuff. He was a very creative man, a deep thinker, a great father, and he was a good friend too. You just know Dave will be adjusting someone in the life after.

After all he was always hands on whatever he did. I will really miss you my friend. I will miss our deep talks and lunches, I pray that God rewards you for all the care you gave others.
    Dr. Sam Johnson
