David’s service will be livestreamed below at 10 AM, Saturday, June 10th

David Paul Workin, 83, of Mesa, AZ (formerly of Fargo, ND) died at his home in Mesa on Friday, May 5th

David was born in Mayville, ND on February 12th, 1940, and grew up on the family farm near Galesburg, ND. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1957 and attended Moorhead State and Dakota Business College. He was a veteran and served in the Army as a Specialist from 1959 to 1962.

David married Judi in 1966 and they made their home in Fargo where they raised two daughters. He began working for Structural Products as a bookkeeper and became one of the principal owners of Structural Materials until his retirement in 2006. He thoroughly enjoyed his snowbird lifestyle after his retirement – spending time between Arizona and Fargo.

David was a sports enthusiast – especially all things NDSU. He was a rabid Twins fan – following them faithfully through every winning or losing season. David loved watching his grandchildren’s games and activities. He was an avid golfer – he enjoyed every round of golf and all the friends he made along the way. He loved family card games, Broadway plays, and Freddy’s Lefse. He traveled the world with Judi – trips to Normandy, Cuba and Ireland were some of his favorites.

He is survived by his wife, Judi of 56 years and their two daughters, Lisa, Apple Valley, MN and Michelle (Jon Drucker), Eagan, MN. He was a proud Papa Dave to three grandchildren, Ben Oberfeld (Martha Kauls), Joshua Drucker and Grace Drucker. Other survivors include his siblings Richard Workin (Bunny), Frances Kyllo, Raydon Workin, Carol Baker and his sister-in-law Marlys Workin along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Ben Workin, brothers Arland Workin and Marlow Workin, and sisters Madelyn Ulland and Arlene Klug.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 10th at Boulger Funeral home at 10:00AM with visitation one hour prior. Please wear your favorite sports team apparel in honor of superfan David. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley, the Emergency Food Pantry, or the charity of your choice.

  4. Our condolences to Judi and the family. May God give you peace and comfort. I(Fred) worked with Dave at M & H gas station while we were at Dakota Business College. He was a great guy to work with.

  5. I went to school with David. Galesburg Public School. He was a couple years older than myself. RIP

  6. Judi and family, I was sorry to read about Dave’s passing. I first met him when I did the audit at Structural Products way back in 1980 and then again through all the years working with Judi at Dakota Hospital and HRRV.

Dave was a kind, pleasant and nice man. Even though it has been a number of years since I last saw him, I will miss him.

I can’t be at the memorial service as I have a prior commitment, but trust my thoughts and prayers will be with you that day and everyday.

  7. Judi, I just heard of Dave’s passing. My sympathy to you as you go through this difficult time. I am so sorry you have become a member of the widows club. There are many of us who never wanted to belong. If you ever need someone to talk to please feel free to reach out. I winter in Arizona from Nov. to May.

  8. JUDI AND FAMILY.
