Resided in: Moorhead, Minnesota

Dawn LeRae Aabye, 64, passed away peacefully on September 8th in her home after a hard-fought health battle.

Dawn was a fiercely loving, loyal, and compassionate soul whose vibrant energy and genuine warmth left an undeniable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Dawn spent many years at Heartland Industries, where she made life long friends of both her clients and co-workers.

Dawn possessed a rare resilience, always fighting to find her strength. She carried a deep reverence for memory, frequently taking the time to honor and remember those she had loved and lost in her own life. Dawn has now been reunited with those who went before her. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Virgil McKay; her beloved son, Coyte Aabye; her father, Carl Aabye; her sister, Carrie Aabye; and her nephew, Lee Folden.

Her legacy of love and light lives on through those who knew her. Dawn is survived by her mother, Cheryl Peterson; her brother Craig (Jeff) Aabye, four half-siblings; her sons, Brandon (Jen) Aabye, Nick Adamski, Kyle Adamski, Dylan (Kimmie) McKay; and her cherished grandsons, Wyatt and McCoy Aabye.

Though she has left us, the ripples of Dawn’s spirit will affect us for the rest of our days. She will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing she is finally at peace, free from pain, and wrapped in eternal comfort.

A gathering in memory of Dawn will take place on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at MB Johnson Park: 3601 11th St. N., Moorhead, MN 56560

  14. Diva Dawn: I will never forget the first time that I met you. I knew from the start that I would have a very important person that I would be able to call you as my friend. When you worked at the club I could always come talk about anything that was going on in my life and you would give me great advice on what I should do. You never judge anyone that came to talk to you. Your office was always full of people that wanted to talk to you or even just to hang out with you. I will never forget the great job helping me plan Kayla baby shower when she was pregnant with Chloe and how you stepped in to go in the operating room when she had Chloe. We’re so happy when you decided to be Chloe’s godmother. I will never forget the impact that you made on my life. I will always love you and miss you. Love Julie McDonald.
