Declan Richard Michael Swaser passed gently into the arms of Jesus in his sleep on September 29, 2023, due to a rapid onset infection.
Declan was born November 6, 2021, in Fargo, ND to Morgan Smith and Zachary Swaser. During his almost 2 years of life, he brought immense joy, laughter, and happiness to all that he encountered. He was often described as a perfect child. So easy to care for from the very beginning, full of energy, and just a delight.
He loved reading books, sitting on the lawn mower or behind the wheel of Grandpa “Gampa” or Papa’s truck (with keys in hand), making messes just to clean them up, building towers just to knock them over. He was always “very busy” and wanted to “show you”, tugging on your hand to come with him. He loved being a helper. Whether it was cooking dinner, vacuuming, or blowing leaves. He wanted to be right in the middle of the action. He frequently relocated everyone’s shoes to wherever he thought they should go. Of course, he had to try them on and was always so proud, grinning ear to ear, when praised for putting them on the correct feet. Doing Declan’s laundry would sometimes reveal surprises in his pockets. The boy loved his pockets. It could be a rock, a small stick, or a toy he lifted from daycare.
Declan was simply a great little boy that was funny, happy, oh so lovable, and just an overall goofball. His hugs and wet kisses, great snuggles at naptime, high fives, and loud squeals of excitement as he ran to be swooped up will be missed greatly but the memory of them is held close and dear to our hearts.
Declan is survived by his loving parents, Morgan Smith and Zachary Swaser (Prairie Rose, ND); Grandparents Micheal and Julie Smith (Prairie Rose, ND) and Brian and Chelsa Swaser (Fargo, ND); Uncles, Ryan Smith (Brooklyn Center, MN) and Isaac Swaser (Fargo, ND); Great Grandma Paulette Johnson (West Fargo, ND) and Great Grandma LaVonne Rustad (Fargo, ND); and countless other extended family and friends that adored him.
Declan was preceded in death by his Great Grandpa William Smith, Great Grandma Barbara Reppen, Great Grandparents Steven and Karen Swaser, and Great Grandpa Richard Rustad.

We had the pleasure and honor of meeting little Declan this summer. He was a busy little boy and a joy to be around!
There is no explanation for Declan’s passing, other than God needed a perfect Angel in Heaven. We are keeping the Rustad and Swaser families in our daily thoughts and prayers.

I’m incredibly sorry about this loss. I’m a former co-worker of Chelsea’s (knowing a few other family members thru those fun times) we’ve stayed in contact and I’ve watched as Declan was born into this amazingly close family. God doesn’t create this heartache. He’s not a mean or vicious God. But knowing He has control is what we have to trust on in the extremely painful moments in life. Hugs and prayers as the pain can lesson and answers with healing and great memories sustain you. God holds you close.💔🙏
I can’t even imagine the pain you must be going through. My heart is breaking for you.
God’s will is so difficult to accept or understand. May love and memories see you through this.
