Delano O. Herrmann
September 2, 1941 ~ April 11, 2026
Delano’s service will be livestreamed below starting at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Delano Otto Herrmann, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on September 2, 1941, in rural Kulm, North Dakota, he was the son of Otto and Elsie Herrmann. Del attended grade school and high school in Kulm where he first met Joanne. They later married in July of 1961 building a remarkable 64-year marriage, during which they raised three wonderful daughters: Jodell, Jana, and Justine.
Del’s professional life started at the Fargo National Bank and later entered in insurance, working with Lutheran Brotherhood, which is now known as Thrivent, before retiring from Mutual of Omaha. He was a familiar face at First Lutheran Church, where he spent over 55 years ushering, welcoming everyone with a smile. Later in life, he took on the role of caretaker for the townhomes where he and Joanne spent over 20 happy years, always making sure the landscape looked pristine for his neighbors.
Del was a giving man and the type of guy who donated blood whenever he could or lent a helping hand to anyone in need. Above all, Del was a family man and his family was the center of his life. He loved to watch his grandchildren at all their events and show his support or spending relaxing time at the lake with everyone in the family. Del’s legacy will always live on and the amount of love he poured into his family and friends will never be forgotten.
Del is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughters, Jodell (Bob) Brower, Jana (Bill) Michels, Justine (Kris) Anderson; grandchildren, Lindsay Brower, Josh (Ashley) Michels, Ryan (Alexis Kracht) Michels, Devan Michels, Easton (Jayden Hovland) Ebeling, Colby Ebeling; one great grandson, Parker Michels; and many nieces and nephews.
Del is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Elsie Herrmann; siblings, Florence Radke, Gladys Ost, Alice Blumhardt, and Melvin Herrmann; father and mother in-law, Bernard and Bertha Rasch; brothers in law, Reinie Blumhardt, Clifford Radke, Osborn Ost; and sister in law, Darlene Herrmann.

I’m so sorry to hear of Del’s passing. My sympathies go out to Joanne and Del’s daughters. My heart is broken that Del is gone. He was my cousin, friend, basketball team mate. I will miss his birthday call to me. And much more.
I will miss his services because I’m out of the country. I will try to live stream if I can.
Love, Tom
Our deepest sympathy to Joanne, Jodell, Jana, Justine and families. We have so many fun memories of Del, Joanne and family over many years as our “Lake Family”!! Prayers for each and every one of you. Wish we could be there for his service but plan on watching the livestream and will be thinking of all of you.
I knew Del as a fellow Helping Hands volunteer and usher at First Lutheran Church in Fargo. He was a dedicated volunteer and a great usher leader. We had numerous great discussions about sports, and most especially about basketball. He was so proud of his grandchildren’s athletic exploits and rightfully so. One thing we had in common of which we were both grateful is being honored in the same 2009 ND state class B basketball program…Del for his Kulm High School basketball team being featured for winning the state tournament title and me for being featured for being inducted into the ND Officials’ Hall of Fame.😊
Rest in peace, Del!🙏

I have fond memories of Uncle Del. He seemed to me to be a quiet man in some ways, but he always had a broad smile and a great sense of humor. It was a privilege to have him as an uncle, and I am so sorry for the loss that my cousins and their families are experiencing. Doug Blumhardt
Joanne and family. Del was the best. He took so much pride in the project and took care of everything like it was his own home. He always wanted the inside and out to be perfect. I miss not dropping in for a visit. We had many great years together.
