Della Mae Styve, 93, formerly of Hillsboro, ND, died peacefully and surrounded by her family at Edgewood Vista in East Grand Forks, MN, on Saturday, July 23, 2005. Della was born on July 9, 1912 in Hillsboro to John and Signa (Guttormson) Anderson. Della was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro where she was a lifelong member. Della attended school in Hillsboro and graduated from high school in 1930. As a young lady, she had various jobs in Hillsboro. Later, she moved to Northfield, MN, and worked at St. Olaf College where she met her future husband Sanford Styve. They were married on August 21, 1942 in Grand Forks, ND. Della and Sanford had one daughter, Diane. The family lived in Northfield and Denison, IA, before moving to Hillsboro in 1950. Della worked at Collins Pharmacy for several years. She then was employed by the Northwestern State Bank for 16 years. She loved the people at the bank and spoke fondly of her years there after her retirement in 1969. Della enjoyed her retirement years. She filled her time with gardening, sewing, crafts, and enjoying her two grandchildren, Heather and Matthew Pauls. Sanford died on August 25, 1986. Della continued to live in Hillsboro until 1993 when she moved to Grand Forks to be close to her daughter, Diane, and family. She lived at Homestead Place Apartments in Grand Forks before moving to Valley Eldercare in 1997. Della moved to Edgewood Vista in East Grand Forks in 2001. She was suffering from failing memory and very poor eyesight due to macular degeneration. Until the very end, Della was always friendly, cheerful, and very concerned about others. When her care givers or family did even the smallest thing for her, she thanked them and gave them hugs and kisses. Della received excellent care at Edgewood and her loving care givers became like family members for her. During the final week of her life, Della?s daughter and family were so privileged to be with her day and night and to hold her and talk to her as she left her earthly body and went to Heaven to eternal life with Jesus and to enjoy her glorious new heavenly body. Della is survived by her daughter, Diane (Russell) Pauls of Grand Forks; her grandchildren, Heather and Matthew Pauls, also of Grand Forks; her sister, Emogene "Nippy" Walton of Rolla, ND; and three nephews and a niece.
