Delores J. Peterson

delores peterson

Delores Jane Peterson, age 88, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025.

Delores was born on March 4, 1937, in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Omar and Grace (Keogh) Herzog. When Delores was four months old, her mother passed away, and she always felt blessed by the care she received growing up from her sister Marvel. She grew up in Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1955.

On November 11, 1955, Delores was united in marriage to Everett Peterson at First Lutheran Church in Fargo. Together, they made their home in Fargo, where they raised their beloved daughter, Tammy. In 1968, they built a lake home on Lake Lizzie, where they created countless memories during the summer months for over four decades. Delores and Everett were married for nearly 63 years until his passing in 2018. Their daughter Tammy passed away just two years later— a loss Delores carried in her heart every day. Her fondest memories were twofold: Celebrating life with Everett, often dancing the night away, and listening to him play his accordion. And celebrating life with Tammy, a devoted daughter who called her mother every night and even took her mom to the Holy Land.

A woman of deep faith, Delores often said that her church was the one constant in her life from 1955 to 2025. She had a gift for growing beautiful flowers and tending her yard, and was an accomplished artist in the area of Norwegian Rosemaling, but her true superpower was friendship. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people and cultivate lasting bonds. In her final days, she was surrounded by those cherished friends who had truly become her family.

Delores is survived by one sister, Marge Engebretson of Pelican Rapids, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; daughter, Tammy Jones; her parents, Omar and Grace Herzog; five brothers—Kenneth, Charles, T.J., Clinton, and Keo Herzog—and three sisters: Marvel Peterson, Eloise Isaacson, and Lorraine “Toots” Lafleur.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, with visitation beginning at 2:00 PM.
