Diane Gerjets
March 1, 1943 ~ March 13, 2023
Diane Gerjets, Fargo, ND was a beloved grandmother, mother, and wife during her incredible 79 years of life. She passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 13, 2023, spending her final days with the constant companionship of her granddaughters Teni, Elise, and Anna.
Diane Renee Gerjets was born to Tenny and Edith (Houske) Stole, on March 18, 1943, in Halstad, MN. Diane graduated from Halstad High School and went on to study Nutrition Science at North Dakota State University. She married Cleighton Jerome “Rusty” Hastad on November 22, 1965, and a year later their daughter Michelle was born. After Rusty’s passing in 1992, Diane found love and friendship again, and married David Gerjets on January 24, 1996, and moved to Twin Valley, MN.
Diane was a homemaker and loved being surrounded by people. She was a generous hostess and outstanding cook, and her taco pie recipe is a family favorite. Diane loved her parents dearly and prioritized taking care of them until their final day. Diane was a selfless volunteer, delivering meals to the elderly, serving as a state board member for the American Cancer Society, and spent hours upon hours visiting residents, sharing snacks, and livening up the halls at the Halstad Living Center with her young granddaughters in tow. Diane was an avid animal lover, and anyone who knew her heard many sweet and funny stories about her beloved Yorkies.
Nicknamed “Grandma Fruit” by her grandkids, Diane filled their lives with endless activities, fun adventures, sugary goodness, and most importantly, love. Diane continued a friendship with her former son-in-law, Scott Ebsen, and his family, and her ‘bonus’ granddaughters Clare and Mia were also with Grandma Fruit in her final days. Diane was close with her cousins throughout the years and truly appreciated and loved her extended family. Besides her own grandchildren, Diane was known to many as “Grandma Fruit” and she considered the Meadows Nursing Home caregivers (and their kids) as family, too. Diane kept a snack drawer filled to the brim and visitors or staff knew that an interaction with Diane would usually result in leaving with a candy bar or some other goodie. Diane was kind, generous and had the best sense of humor. She always made sure those around her were taken care of and spread so much love. Diane will be deeply missed.
Diane is preceded in death by her husband, Rusty Hastad, and parents, Tenny and Edith Stole. She is survived by her daughter Michelle (Nathan) Lindgren, grandchildren Teni (Kyle) Magnuson, Elise (Connor) Jones, Anna Lindgren, great-grandson Sebastian Jones, another great-grandson due in late July, and, David Gerjets.
A private memorial will be held at Halstad Lutheran South Cemetery.
Our deepest condolences to Dianne’s family. We enjoyed many family celebration with Dianne and her family.

So many fond memories of family holidays spent with Aunt Diane in Halstad. She was also the best gift giver!
I became acquainted with Diane when she called me about making some blouses for her. I made many tops for Diane. I am not sure how she ever got my name. That was quite a few years ago. I think the last time I saw her was shortly after she moved to Moorhead. I always felt she was a nice lady. She was particular, but I managed to get it right for her. My sympathies to the family. She sounded like a very caring person.
We have so many good memories of Diane. Growing up next door and going swimming and playing with Mimi, taking trips with them and so many more fun times. Diane was so kind, and we will remember her always.
Sending hugs and prayers to the family during this difficult time.

Diane was a favorite of mine. She was our next door neighbor and was a fixture at our house. My mom Eleanor thought the world of her. Rest easy, Babe. You’ve earned it.
Very sad to hear of her passing God’s blessings and peace to her family and her friends. She’s a very nice lady , My daughter Mylie and her daughter Mimi spent a lot of time together when we were living in Halston and the girls were growing up lots of swim parties over at Mimi’s house. Diane was always so gracious to the kids. She will be missed
On May 19th 1990, I met Diane as I married her cousin Maribeth Dittbetner. Best decision I ever made. Dane hosted a few of our wedding festivities. She was always the perfect hostess and willing to contribute at any level,Maribeth and Jeff will miss you greatly.
Michelle, I have fond memories of gathering at your house, movie parties, and enjoying the pool and fun times with the dance line. Your mom was generous and kind. A light. Sending love and prayers to you and your family.
Thank you, Mary 💚
Diane will be missed by many! Such a beautiful lady and friend to everyone! she was so generous with all when visiting and enjoying their lovely home! I remember having block parties with friends nearby and she would always invite the kids to swim in her pool and everyone got a big candy bar treat when leaving which topped off the night perfectly 🙂 I worked at the Halstad Living Center while her mother was in the Home and she brought us the best desserts every time she came to visit for all of us and was so willing to share the recipes! Prayers and hugs to the family and may God help you through your sorrow with lots of love and peace for all!
So many memories over the years! Diane was the ultimate hostess and always had our favorite pop (Mt. Dew for me) and candy (Andes Mints) on hand for movie watching, pool time, or just hanging out in Mimi’s room. She would spoil us with food from Pop’s patio in the summer and shopping at West Acres often. She bought me a t-shirt that said “Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore”. Oh, how I loved that t-shirt! I don’t know how she put up with the number of teenagers traipsing around the house all the time but she always made everyone feel welcome. I am blessed to still be good friends with Mimi (Michelle) and to know her kids and grandkids. To all who are mourning Diane’s passing, I pray for peace that passes all understanding and God’s loving comfort in these sad days.
With fond memories,
Mylie (Lavold) Lougheed

I’ve known Diane since my aunt and uncle lived upstairs in their house in Halstad. Over the years we sometimes ran into each other, always had a good visit. Sending my condolences and sympathy to all of you.
