Diane Hoeg, 76, Fargo, ND passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, at home surrounded by family under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Diane Nell Devine was born on February 25, 1947 at the Devine Farm in Wakonda, SD. Diane was the fifth child of fifteen born to Tom and Anne (Glidden) Devine.

Diane graduated in 1965 from Wakonda High School. Following graduation she attended Mitchell Technical College in Mitchell, SD. Diane worked as a laboratory technician at various hospitals and clinics in Rapid City, SD, St. Paul, MN, and Bismarck ND. In 2002, Diane and Chip moved to Fargo, ND. Where she began her career in plasma services working for BioLife and Talecris. She retired in 2016 to spend more time with her grandchildren and flower gardening, her true passions.

On June 10, 1967, Diane married her childhood sweetheart, Chip Hoeg at Saint Patrick’s Church in Wakonda, SD. Together they raised four boys, Travis, Jesse, Adam, and Lucas in Bismarck, ND. In 2002, Diane and Chip moved to Fargo, ND to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Diane held a special gift with people. She made everyone around her feel loved and comforted. Often, Diane was the one person many friends, colleagues, and her sons went to with personal problems. She had an uncanny way of giving “tough love” advice in the most lovable and caring way. Diane’s big smile always conveyed a sense of happiness and put people at ease. She loved passing her wisdom onto her grandchildren who were fortunate to learn many lifelong lessons from her. Diane was passionate about her plants; one couldn’t walk into her home without noticing she was a plant lady. She took meticulous care of them and really enjoyed the beauty that each brought to the world.

In retirement, Diane enjoyed traveling with her husband to historic landmarks and museums around the Midwest. She really loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing, talking, and teaching them about life. Diane exemplified the title of Grandma, so much so her name should be the definition. She loved endlessly and cared tirelessly for everyone fortunate enough to cross paths with her.

Diane is survived by her sons, Travis (Alison) Fargo, ND, Jesse (Naomi) Fargo ND, Adam (Gregory) Los Angeles, CA, Lucas (Krista) Fargo, ND and nine grandchildren; Kade, Keaton, Zoe, Bode, Cecilia, Cameron, Kullen, Jonah, and Ryer.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Chip, parents, Thomas and Anne, brother, John, sister, Annie, and her sister-in-law Kathy.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley (1701 38th St. S., Suite 101, Fargo, ND 58103) or to St. Patrick’s Building Fund (209 Iowa St, Wakonda, SD 57073)

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I remember some fun times as a kid with the Hoegs. Diane was a wonderful lady with a strong spirit. I’m thinking of all of you.

  2. Diane was who everyone went to for advice. She was a safe place to pause and talk out the issue. She did not accept excuses just plan realisms. I am thankful she gave me the opportunity to work at Talecris where we became colleagues and friends. She will be remembered in all of my chats with people going forward, “What would Diane say?” To help find the right words. I love you Diane for your courage and kindness. May you rest in peace with Chip and your other family members who have gone before you. Xoxox

  3. Sometimes people cross your path for a season as Diane did mine. I’ve never forgotten her. She definitely was a force. May the angels carry her on loving wings and place her in the arms of Jesus.

  4. I worked with Diane in Bismarck and we often got caught visiting rather than getting our work done. She was a joy to work with and to be called friend. My sympathy to the family.

  5. Diane brought light and love into every conversation. Her laugh and smile is legendary. We hold her family in the light.

  6. We are so sorry for the loss of your dear Mother. She was always so fun to be around. She always had a huge smile on her face and yet there was no fooling her. She was so genuine. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and in our prayers. Hugs from the Voegele’s

  7. My thoughts and prayers are with you Diane as you take your heavenly journey. You will be remembered by many and you will always be in my heart as your kindness and advice meant so much to me over the years. Rest is peace, my friend.

  8. Our deepest sympathy to the entire family.

We knew Diane and Chip when they lived in Germany as well as when they moved to St. Paul. We babysat for Travis in Germany as well as the other boys in St. Paul.

We enjoyed the time we spent with both Diane and Chip and have many fond memories. They were great friends and loving parents

It is sad that we lost touch with such wonderful friends.

    With deepest sympathy.
