Diane Kaye (Gunderson) Kvitne, 76, of Hillsboro, ND passed away February 19, 2023 at Sanford Long-Term Care Center in Hillsboro.
Diane was born December 10, 1946 in Grand Forks, ND to Gust and Hilda (Gustafson) Gunderson. She grew up and attended school in Buxton, ND and then graduated from Climax High School in 1964. Then she went on to graduate from Bernel Hairstyling College in Grand Forks in 1965. On February 26, 1966 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Stewart Kvitne at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buxton. Diane and Lloyd made their home in Hillsboro, ND and Diane remained in the home after Lloyd’s death on September 6, 1984. With failing health, Diane was moved into the Sanford Long-term Care Center in Hillsboro and remained in their care until her death.
Diane was a loving daughter, sister, wife, sister-in-law, friend and an amazing aunt to 38 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Diane and Lloyd did not have any children, so she gladly volunteered childcare to her ten siblings when they needed help. Her nieces and nephews meant the world to her and she meant the world to them. And they proved it by joking with her as much as she joked with them.
Diane was a member at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Diane was a longtime employee of the Hillsboro nursing home as a Dietician and in 1984 Diane, along with her sister-in-law Lila Jean became one of the first volunteers for Hospice of the Red River Valley. Diane’s hobbies included reading; knitting; ceramics; baking; cooking for herself and others and spending time with her family.
Diane is survived by one brother, Dennis (Lorna) Gunderson of Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-law’s Lila Jean Gunderson of Mayville, ND; Valerie Gunderson of Buxton, ND; Donna Gunderson of Surprize, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd; siblings & their spouses: Helene (Lawrence) Brend, Myron Gunderson, Gordon (Theoline) Gunderson, Orville (Mary Ann) Gunderson, Mavis (Bill) Couchigian, Rodney Gunderson, Wallace (Marilyn) Gunderson, Rosalie (Melford) Lindstrom, and Gayhart Gunderson; and preceded in death by four nephews and one niece.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley or charity of choice.

Diane was the sweetest person. I have known her for many years before she entered the nursing home. I was a employee at Sanford community when she came to live there, she loved her bingo and just visiting with other tenants. Diane was a excellent cook and baker and always shared her goodies with other people! I loved her and always remember the lipstick had to be on Feb fore she went anywhere. Such good memories!
We reminisced about many things. I remember roller skating.and visits to the Buxton cafe, and learning how to knit with her. Spending time with her was always a joy. I imagine that the many nieces and nephews She had, could claim similar experiences. You will be missed Auntie Diane.
So sorry for your loss! Diane a d I worked at Eleanor’s beauty shop. She was fun to work with, and always had that “mischievous” smile. She will be missed! Sending prayers and hugs!
Remembering Diane from my youth (before we moved to CA) as a really fun person. What a loss for the community , but a gain for heaven.
