Donald passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the Hillsboro Medical Center at the age of 72.
Donald Arthur Waters was born on January 31, 1951, the son of Benjamin “Bucky” and Audrey (Hanson) Waters in Hillsboro, ND. He grew up on the family farm near Hillsboro, received his education, graduating from Hillsboro High School. Following his graduation, Don proudly served his country in the Unites States Army. Upon his discharge, he returned to North Dakota where he began working with his father on the family farm.
Don was united in marriage to Paula Hamre on December 14, 1974 and three daughters were born to this union – Tara, Alicia and Erica. Don was well known in the area for his work in caretaking for the Hillsboro Rest Areas, and well as his work at American Crystal for many years until his retirement. He loved spending time at the lake fishing, bowling with his buddies, and time on the golf course with his friends.
Don is survived by his three daughters – Tara (Beni) Vega of Aurora, CO; Alicia Eubanks of Fargo, ND; and Erica Waters of Fargo, ND; his grandchildren – Julian, Chelsea, Braxton, Marco, Tavion, and Christian; his siblings – J.P. Waters of Makoti, ND; Jeanie (Bill Fischer) Swenson of Hillsboro, ND; Larry (Karla) Waters of Casper, WY; and Bob Waters of Hillsboro, ND. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many very dear friends and other relatives.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Bucky and Audrey; and his brother, Tim Waters.
His daughters acknowledge their father’s unwavering support throughout the years, during good days and the times when they needed him the most. Alicia expresses heartfelt gratitude for his constant presence and support during challenging times. Erica is thankful for his encouragement during her medical struggles, which made a significant difference. Tara fondly recalls his presence at her wedding in Mexico in 2008, sharing that special moment with him left a lasting impression. His grandchildren cherish fond memories of visiting him, especially the fishing derbies! Paula, former wife and current friend, thanks him for their 3 beautiful daughters.

God bless the memory of Donny Waters. I still remember working with him at the factory, smelt fry’s, and maybe an adult beverage or two. Donny was a good guy.

Donny was special. We loved his magnetic personality. As a kid, Donny was so fun to be around and talk to. I can still remember his laugh. My deepest sympathy to the family. Wish I could be there.
