Donald “Don” W. Hanson, 73, Fargo, ND, died May 13, 2009 at his home. Donald William Hanson, the son of Harry and Naomi (Peterson) Hanson was born October 17, 1935 at Fargo, ND. He graduated from Fargo Central High School and North Dakota State University. Don married Marilyn Johnson of Perham, MN on August 25, 1956 in Perham. They were married for 52 years. The couple made their home in Fargo, and in recent years spent the winters in Tucson, AZ. Don was baptized at the Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church, rural Fargo; confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Fargo; and has been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fargo since 1957. Don was a Registered Professional Engineer in ND and MN and worked for Mooney, Henning & Associates, Consulting Engineers, Fargo; Elken & Hanson, Architects & Engineers, Moorhead, MN; Geston & Hanson, Architects & Engineers, Fargo and retired as Facilities Administrator from the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station at NDSU, Fargo in 1999. Don believed in community involvement. He was a North Dakota State Senator representing District 45 from 1976 through 1982. He was a former President of: Red River Valley Chapter Construction Specifications Institute; FM Curling Club; Fargo Rotary Club; NDSU Alumni Association and the Fargo Dome Authority. Don is survived by his wife, Marilyn; brother Wayne (Ellen) Hanson, Mesa, AZ; three children, Deon Ruth (Robert) Wentzel, Walton, NE; Mark (Jana) Hanson, Grand Forks, ND; Kirk (Angie) Hanson, Colorado, Springs, CO; and six grandchildren, Karin Wentzel, Gretchen Wentzel, Jana Wentzel, Sara Hanson, Seth Hanson, and Adam Hanson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Elaine (Roland) Peterson; and grandson, Erik Wentzel. Visitation: 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Boulger Funeral Home and one hour before the funeral at the church on Monday. Prayer Service: Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 7:45 p.m. in the Boulger Funeral Home. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND. Memorials preferred to the General Fund of North Dakota State University Alumni Association or Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund.
