Donald Erickson, 88, passed away on July 5th, 2023, in Moorhead, MN.

Donald Erickson was born on September 16th, 1934 in Bismarck, ND, to Melvin Erickson and Edna (Hallsten) Erickson.

Donald graduated from Sheyenne High School in 1952 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from UND in History in 1959. He started his career as a farmer and went on to work for over 40 years north of Sheyenne, ND.

Donald married his first wife Deanna Smith on June 28th, 1979 in Sheyenne, ND. The couple had 1 child, Carissa Dawn.

In 1998, he married Carol Lies of New Rockford. She passed away in June 2005.

Donald was best known for his love for farming, served on many boards in the Sheyenne community, and enjoyed traveling all over the world. He also enjoyed playing piano and singing to his friends and family.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Carissa (Darin) Engstrom, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Olivia (age 9) and Carter (age 5) along with one niece and 5 nephews and one special cousin and best friend Robert Cook. 6 stepchildren, Chris (Bobbi) Bichler and family, Rick (Nikki) Lies and family, Joel (Tammi) Lies and family, Patrick (Denise) Lies and family, Morgan (Lynnae) Lies and family, and Melanie (Jeff) Romanoski and family.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Mayo and sister-in-law Elaine Erickson, his sister Jean and brother-in-law Pat Barclay, his niece Barbara Barclay, his wife Carol, several aunts, and uncles as well as cousins.

The service for Mr. Donald Erickson will be held on August 18th, at 10:30am at Grace Lutheran Church in Sheyenne, ND.

Burial: Riverside Cemetery in Sheyenne, ND 58374.

  1. I was sorry to hear of Don’s passing. My condolences to all of Dons family. Don was a dear friend of my parents.
    I got to know Don rather well as I helped combine his farm for a number of years. He had a great sense of humor and wit.
