Donald King, age 81, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Sanford Health Palliative Care in Fargo, surrounded by his loving family.

Donald Eugene King was born on February 22, 1930, the son of Frank and Helen (Weber) King, in Amenia, ND. He grew up in this area and received his education. Donald married Betty Ostenson October 28th, 1950 at Casselton Lutheran Church in Casselton, ND. They resided near Amenia, ND during their first years of marriage. 

He raised crops and livestock on farms near Wyndmere, Christine and Walcott, throughout his years.  In addition to farming, Donald held numerous sideline jobs. He worked on a dairy farm near Bismarck, drove truck for Rustad's of Kindred, did construction work in the Twin Cities, worked for Crystal Sugar of Moorhead, MN, was employed by Fargo Public Schools for snow removal, drove wrecker for Cliff's Standard Oil of Fargo, ND, drove school bus, was a custom combiner, ran a custom grain vac service, worked for Interstate Seed of West Fargo, ND, ran a bulldozing business working with many area farmers throughout ND and MN along with Arial and contractors of The Meadows Golf Course in Moorhead, MN, and in the later years he enjoyed helping his son-in-law Mark on the farm and grandson Vincent with his spray parts business. 

He was a member of the Walcott Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Fargo Eagles Club where he enjoyed listening to the Scottsmen. He was involved in opening and operating the Walcott roller rink. He was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, waterskiing, downhill skiing, and riding four wheeler with his "Buddy". He had a passion for horses. His girls were never without a horse to ride. He had a special interest in the "Nakota" breed of horses. He loved to spend time with family, attending numerous grandchildren's activities.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty, daughters Cheryl (Bruce) Hackey of Colfax, ND, Julie (Percy) Scherbenske of Farmington, MN, Shelly (Steve) Lund of Perham, MN and Jamie (Mark) Gorder of Galchutt, ND, 10 grandchildren Travis (fiancé Sarah Dixon) Hackey, Ryan (Michaela) Hackey, Carma (Dustin) DeVillers, Kim (Jesse) Kruger, Jodi Snyder, Terra (Tom) Olson, Stephanie Lund,  Courtney (Justin) Richter, Vincent (DeeAnn) Gorder and Anne (Nick) Meyer, 14 great-grandchildren Gia Hackey, Sonya Kruger, Elizabeth and Kyle Snyder, Chase and Cole Olson, Paityn, Jayden, Morgan and Caitlyn Lund, Blaine and Mia Richter, Wade "Buddy" and William Gorder, sister Arlene Thompson, brothers Delbert (Marlene) King and Larry King. He is preceded in death by parents, sister Bette Vickers, brother-in-law Juel Thompson, and sister-in-law Kathy King.
