Donald R. Stockton, age 83, of Fargo, ND entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born on July 31, 1926 in Nauvoo, Illinois to Carl and Clara (Horton) Stockton. He grew up on a farm in Argyle, Iowa and graduated from high school in Argyle. He attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He was employed for 42 years with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and retired as Vice President/CEO for U.S. West in Fargo, ND. He served on the Board of Directors for Norwest Bank, United Way and Meritcare. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church and very active with the Boy Scouts of America in communities where they lived. He received his Silver Beaver, Wood Badge and Order of the Arrow. He also was a recipient of the Pro Patria award from ND National Guard, 1989 Leadership award in Market Freedom, North Dakota and Boss of the Year in Fargo. He was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers, lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #22 in Des Moines, Iowa, Zagazig Shrine and Scottish Rite Consitory. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He loved his family, his friends and enjoyed golfing. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man, always willing to help others. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty (Sills), son James (Donnaree) Stockton, Richmond, VA, daughter Nancy (Joe) Piedimonte, Blue Springs, MO and son Robert of Carmel, NY, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Gerald (Tomoko) Stockton, Honolulu, HI, Carl Jr. (Sharon) Stockton, Mesa, AZ and sisters-in-law, Betty Ann Stockton, Mesa, AZ and Virginia Stockton, Olathe, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Clara, brothers Horton, Lyle and Robert. Memorials preferred to Outreach International, Independence, MO, Boy Scouts of America or the charity of your choice. Visitation: Thursday, November 19 from 5-7 pm at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo and also one hour prior to the service on Friday. Funeral Service: Friday, November 20 at 10:30 am at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Interment: Sunday, November 22 at 2:00 pm at Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, Iowa. Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
