Donald Sweeney, age 67, Fargo, died Tuesday, November 23, 2004 in Innovis Hospital, Fargo. Donald Sweeney was born June 17, 1937 in St. Paul, MN. The family moved to Fargo in 1946. He grew up in Fargo and graduated from Shanley High School. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1960 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Madonna Klontz on October 1, 1960 in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He served in the U. S. Army in Aberdeen, MD and Ft. Hood, TX and was honorably discharged in October 1962 as a 1st Lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps. He worked at Sweeney Brothers Tractor in the engineering and generator department from 1962-1989, and Sweeney Controls from 1989-97 at which time he retired. He was a Past Faithful Navigator of 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus. He coached Little League Football for 13 years, and golfed the Roger Maris Golf Tournament from the beginning. He loved football, hockey, and the opportunity to golf at any and all times. He was very proud when all of his six sons joined the Knights of Columbus at the same time. Don is survived by his wife, Madonna; his children, Greg (Toni), Fargo, Patrick, Moorhead,MN, Timothy (Kimberly), Fargo, Richard (Brenda), Fargo, Anne (Brian) Blake, Dilworth, MN, John (Leslie), Fargo, and Joseph (Kimberly), Reilies Acres, ND; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Rebecca, Matthew, Alexandria, Austin, Hailey, Hannah, Shane, and Abigail; brothers, Mark (Lenore), and Larry (Peggy), both Fargo; his sister-in-law, Shirley Sweeney, Fargo; his aunts, Ursula Sweeney, St. Paul, MN, Gloria Sweeney, Bismarck, ND, Lorine Sweeney, Washington, D.C. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Edna Sweeney; his brother, Eugene; grandson, Adam Blake, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Birthright or to the charity of choice.
