Doris Eleanor Alverson, 92, of Fargo ND passed away peacefully Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Eventide on 32nd Ave in Fargo. She was surrounded by her family.

Doris was born December 1, 1930 to Albert and Gertrude Graff at the family homestead in rural Kindred. ND. She attended Riverside Elementary School, graduating from Kindred High School in 1949. Doris married Elroy Alverson of Fargo. She resided in Fargo her entire adult life.

Doris moved to Fargo after graduating. She worked at several businesses in Fargo before retiring from Ed Philips & Sons in 1990 after 26 years.

She was a member at First Lutheran Church, a longtime member of Elim Lutheran Church and most recently Hope Lutheran. Doris enjoyed cross stitch and other crafting, word puzzles, she especially enjoyed baking at Christmas time for her family and others. She enjoyed trips to the casino and was extremely lucky at video poker. She enjoyed the company of the family’s numerous pets. Doris and Elroy enjoyed traveling after retirement. One of her traveling highlights later in life was going to Norway to visit relatives and see her ancestor’s homestead.

Doris is survived by her children, Daniel (Loree), Detroit Lakes, MN, Michael (Debbie), Dilworth, MN, Gregory (Verna), Mesa, AZ; six grandchildren, Kelly (Matt) Burm, West Fargo, ND, Kristi (Joe) Nigg, Hallock, MN, Tom Alverson (fiancé, Sadie Norstrem), Grand Rapids, MN, Matt (Mena) Alverson, Detroit Lakes MN, Alicia Alverson (Sonny Snyder), Gresham, OR, Scott (Javier Rivas) Alverson, Seattle, WA; 2 step-grandchildren; Jamie Larson (Connor Wenglewick), Glyndon, MN, Jenny (Frank) Thomas, Colorado Springs, CO, eleven great-grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters, Evelyn Wirth and Corrine Nygaard, bother-in-law, Wesley Nelson, sisters-in-law; Irene Graff, Corrine Lamb, and Joyce Alverson.

She is preceded in death by her husband Elroy; parents, Albert and Gertrude Graff; infant daughter Barbara; brother Gorden Graff; sisters Aagot (Charley) Hanson, Garnet and (Maurice) Floberg, Beatrice (Jim) Mortenson, Irene Nelson, Marlene (Gene) Berquist.

We would like to thank Eventide on 32nd Fargo, and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the wonderful care and support they provided Doris and her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Hospice of Red River Valley, Alzheimer’s Association, and American Cancer Society.

  3. Doris and Elroy were our neighbors on 21st Street South many years ago. Always pleasant and good people to be around. I remember them doing our leaves one year…we were both working and didn’t really have time. Their yard and house always perfect! She had a long and happy life and leaves a wonderful family to carry on. May the love of family and friends comfort you all and bring peace to your heart.
