Doris J. Engebretson, 88, Fargo passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Doris was born March 21, 1930 in Heimdal, North Dakota to Melvin and Mabel (Fossen) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in the Heimdal area before moving to Fargo in her teens. She worked various jobs before working with Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator for 40 years, retiring in 1985.
She married Kermit Engebretson on October 28, 1950 in Moorhead, MN. Kermit passed away June 1, 2005.
She loved spending time with her 12 grandchildren and enjoyed baking, cooking and making sure everyone had a full stomach. “You’re a good cook Doris.” She loved playing BINGO, card games and going to the casino. Family was the most important thing to Doris and she will be missed by many.
She is survived by her 5 children; Jeffrey Engebretson, Denver, CO, Cynthia Muhle, Fargo, ND, Tracy (Shelly) Engebretson, Rapid City, SD, David (Tina Raab) Engebretson, Fargo, ND, Sandra (Stuart) White, Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine (Richard) Appelt, Lake Villa, IL and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Mabel, sons, Bradley and Gregory, grandchild, Joshua Muhle and sister, Martha Westermann.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch or The New Life Center.
Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 28, 2018 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with visitation starting at 9:00 A.M.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
