dorothy haberlach
Dorothy Haberlach, 85, of 1614 6th Avenue South, Fargo, died Sunday, February 16, 2003 at Rosewood on Broadway. Dorothy was born November 13, 1917 on a farm near Milbank, SD to Elmer and Katherine (Schaell) Schliesman. She attended country school and later parochial school in Milbank. Her family moved to Fargo in 1928. She attended St. Mary?s and St. Anthony grade schools. Dorothy graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1938. She then worked at Oscar Kjorlie Seed, Feed and Coal Company and from 1942-46 at the Cass County Draft Board #1. She was united in marriage to John L. Haberlach on September 26, 1946. They had three children, Don, Diane and Caroline. She is survived by two children, Don (Shari) Haberlach, Moorhead, MN and Diane (Jim) Glatt of Bismarck, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by the love of her life John, and by her youngest daughter Caroline. Our mother and grandmother will be missed by many people. She was a great person of letters, corresponding with many, many people, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary. She sewed beautifully, making everything from the newest style of dresses for herself and family, to quilts for the grandchildren, crafts for friends and church, to even reupholstered furniture for our house and lake cottage. Many times she worked from her own made-up patterns. She made a wide range of crafts over the years. Her last big project was cloth teddy bears for all her grandchildren, made from John?s clothes as Christmas presents in remembrance of their grandfather. Her home was always decorated for the season and even as sick as she was, she had her homemade valentine decorations up. Dorothy always had a big garden with flowers and vegetables. She and John grew grapes and apples as well, and many people enjoyed the harvest. Dorothy canned a lot and saw that we all got jelly and her great pickles. She was an avid hockey fan and when the season changed she watched Twins baseball. She loved her family very much.
