Funeral Mass:

Dorothy Ann Heidt was born in the back of a lumber wagon, on the way to the hospital on May 25, 1933, near Dickinson ND. She was raised on her parent’s dairy farm with her 10 siblings. She learned to drive tractor at 9 years of age as her brothers were in the service. She had fond memories of all her farm animals, especially her horse Silver and her pet goose.

Dorothy sang in the choir at mass and funerals at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gaylord, ND. She met her husband, Philip Huck there as he accompanied her on the organ. She would turn the sheet music as he played.

They were married on October 15, 1951. She has 12 children, 69 grandchildren, 77 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

After their marriage, they moved to Dickinson, Williston, Minot, Fargo, and finally Moorhead where they built their life together.

Dorothy didn’t work outside the home, but she certainly worked very diligently in the home. Dorothy was known for her caramel rolls, vegetable soup, blachinda, Shoop Noodles and the candy jar that was always full for when the grandchildren visited. Dorothy loved playing games and cards with her children and grandchildren. She was active in her church women’s guild. She made many rosaries and prayed for her children and grandchildren as she made them. Both Phil and Dorothy sold Shaklee Products for 42 years and Tahitian Noni for several years. Dorothy was the backbone to Phil’s endeavors. He had the ideas and was out front selling, she set up the meetings, handled the orders, shipping and accounting.

Dorothy loved to talk about the exciting trips they had taken. They visited, most of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Tahiti, and Italy where they attended a public audience with the Pope.

Their marriage and life was dedicated to reaching out to others and preaching the gospel by their actions. Over the years Phil and Dorothy had many “foster daughters” that lived with them. Many of these young women simply needed a safe loving environment in order to bring balance and stability to their lives. Dorothy sewed and crocheted baby blankets for unwed mothers, while Phil was a sidewalk counselor at the abortion center.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Philip, her parents Roy and Veronica (Olheiser) Heidt, her Daughter-in-law Valerie (Jahner) Huck, Son-in-law Rick Kuhn, grandsons Troy Huck and Patrick Huck.

She is survived by her children Eileen (Bruce) Fike, Father Chuck Huck, Gerald (Theresa) Huck, Gary (Eileen) Huck, Mary Jo (Bill) Kollitz, Phyllis (Dwight) Thompson, Greg (Linda) Huck, Mike (Kristi) Huck, Karen (Pat) Schreiner, Colleen Kuhn, Debbie Stroh, and Carol (James) Thoma.

In lieu of flowers Dorothy asked that donations be made in her name to either of the following organizations. Saint Gianna’s Maternity Home 15605 County Road 15 Minto, ND 58261 or Hospice of the Red River Valley 3800 56th Ave S Fargo ND and spend time in prayer for an end to abortion and an increase in vocations to the religious life.

  1. Sincere condolences for the loss of one so special in your life. Know that the smiles, laughter, and kindness Ms. Huck shared with others will be forever remembered by all who ever met her. May her countless fine memories forever warm your hearts and bring smiles to your faces, even behind tears shed. Know that death was never God’s plan (Gen. 1:28; Rom. 5:12) so he gives us hope. (Acts 24:15; Ps. 37:11,29) Cherish the hope.
